Piper exhaust

Currently running piper downpipe and exhaust. Downpipe is 2 1/2. Exhaust is 2 1/4 with middle silencer. Would there be any pros/cons fitting a 2 1/2 exhaust without middle silencer . Eg any booming from exhaust? Power increase? Ect

There is another thread somewhere with lots of information.... but to summarise, the 2 1/4" system gives a bore increase of ~24% and a 2 1/2" an increase of ~52% over the OE 2" system.....

..... a 2 1/4" gives a noticeable improvement in breathing, and is "better" than a 2" system..... but a 2 1/2" system is overkill unless you want to up the power beyond ~220bhp (and to do that requires a bigger Turbo, bigger injectors and changes to MAP sensor and other things) - it is really the injectors' ability to deliver sufficient fuel to keep it from running lean that is the limiting factor - not the exhaust. (in fact, it is possible to do the other changes on a 2 1/4" system and still get quite significant improvements).

As for the noise, well, one mans' meat is another mans poison. I love the sound of my Piper 2 1/4" single box system.... but others may not!

As always, the choice rests with you, and you alone (unless there is a partner who may want a helpful input.... something along the lines of "that would pay for a nice meal and a haircut").

Probably more noise, less clearance and no change in hp.

The Piper (2.25") system is the best of the bunch, imo. I'm running with that and it makes a fantastic ​sound and is the best made of the 3 S/S exhausts I've had on my 3 M100's (Peco/Cybox - Collapso Red, PNM - Black Beastie, Piper - NMY)

Mind you, for pure sound I'd recommend 2bular. I'm not sure if he makes an exhaust system for the M100 but I have just the backbox (3rd cat delete) on my Evora and, wow, what a sound from the V6 on full chat

As Dave says, its your car and your choice, but I suspect running without the middle silencer will give you a lot more noise, something you might want to take into account should you ever wish to do a track day

I only have the single silencer (and also have a Pre-Cat Eliminator pipe), and have never had a problem with passing noise tests on trackdays..... when it was newly fitted, I was at Castle Combe and, having passed Noise Testing was waiting to go out when we did a highly scientific test by running my car next to Ripos car (he had the same, but with the middle silencer) - there seemed to be no appreciable noise difference - but I'm deaf in one ear anyway, and Geoff reckoned they sounded the same!!!!
