Received an update from Kelvedon today about their non fitting valve stem seals:

This has now been resolved, and we are looking into sorting a new gasket set, that will be much better in quality than the sets we already supply, and I must stress, this issue with the valve seals has been the only issue (there has been no other quality issue since we have been stocking them). Myself and our supplier have been sorting this out, and we hope to have these here soon, but we do not yet have a definitive date.

So if you are about to purchase an engine or head gasket set from Kelvedon, it would be wise to ring them and ask what valve stem seals will be supplied.

Just seen this. I had a full gasket set from Kelvedon about 18 months ago, and had the same problem with valve seal stems as Ken. There seem to be quite a few around, each with a slightly different spec. Will be interested to hear if and how Kelvedon propose to recompense you.

I am currently looking for a head gasket set and head bolts etc. Where is the best place to get them from at the moment. I note the comments about Kelvedon and the valve seals. Are there alternatives?

Head bolts is the easy part: They are re-usable! (cheap as well!)
For the rest usually Rockauto (USA) is the place to look.

One thing I would advise caution with is the head gasket....

.... the Turbo uses a different one to the NA, and most aftermarket head sets supply the one for an NA. It will fit, and actually work, but it has slightly different holes for water and oil ways which can cause flow issues later on.

I only ever use Lotus head Gaskets now (having been a victim of this 15 years ago!) - but the rest are fine from Rockauto etc.

It is a case of getting a HG from a Lotus place, and then seeing if it is better value to get the rest from RA - as a set or individually - even if it means throwing away the HG from the set.

You may well not require a 'full set' anyway - the camcover gasket is often good to go again (and sometimes the Exhaust manifold one can be reused), you may or may not need both parts of the inlet plenum, and cam seals are cheap bought individually.

.... so I would expect their head set to have a Lotus gasket as Steve won't supply anything that is considered "less than ideal".

I have tried ordering a HG set from SJS before, but his couriers insisted on trying to deliver to the wrong address ! I eventually gave up, and got a refund.
I will try again, and hopefully have better luck this time.

1 was purchased to replace the "new" one which was in the HG sets we all got from Darren many years ago (THAT's how long ago it all was!!!!)

2 are in the box in my loft.

I'm sure its just a typo...but to make sure its SJs as in Steve and Jane (the owners). SGS also sell automotive stuff, but specialise in Gas struts.
