Being a somewhat brainless twit when it comes to mechanics, I nevertheless want to slightly ‘dabble’ as long as it’s reasonably safe

Back in the 70’s I was reasonably confident around the engines etc. of that time ( carburettors, overhead valves etc.) but things have changed a lot since then and I don’t want to screw up.
I want to remove the cam cover to get it blasted and powder coated. I have a replacement gasket but, apart from replacing the old one with the new, do I need anything else to ensure a good seal? And is there anything else I need to consider before starting?
I’m really hoping this hasn’t already been covered somewhere, as I did spent a lot of time using various search phrases, but I confess some of searches chucked 200+ pages, which I’m afraid I didn’t feel up to wading through! Any help much appreciated.

Hey Critter10,
Here is a
rebuild thread that might help you. As you can see, when getting blasted, folks often remove the cam cover baffle plate too. It will also help you have access to remove the grommet for the PCV hose, without breaking it.
If you haven't already, be sure to also download the
service manual. The section EC Engine has info on the removal and reattachment of the cam cover.
Happy painting!

Torquehorse & Jonathan - thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction. My main concern is to ensure there’s nothing fiendish which I might easily overlook. From what I’ve read now, it seems fairly straightforward enough that even I can do this!
Thanks again.
