New Owner Meet/Greet

Postby djspeak » Wed 15.12.2021, 19:52

Thanks you for letting me join. I have bought through auction (silly me) a 1990 Pacific Blue that I now discover has no verified mileage or service receipts (even though stated as existing by Auctioneer). It is G279NRR if anyone knows of this car? I have 3 issues to resolve :- passenger door won't open/shut properly, ! headlight stuck up and other won't come up and passenger wing mirror broken. I am sure I'm in the right place now to resolve these issues!

Welcome

You are in the right place.

It might be worth checking the inner sills / vertical steel membranes ~ easier with the seats and carpets out. Are the rear wishbones sound?

Is the passenger door fouling the A post panel? This panel can cause problems if it moves because it's fixings have failed.

Headlights might have problems with the drive bushes failing .

Secondhand mirrors appear from time to time on eBay. Try a wanted post on this forum?

It would be interesting to know your car's chassis number. Earlier ones have their own quirks .

Enjoy the car .

Can you post photo's of your car? It sounds like an early one ie G reg and maybe has opera style headlights?

If the door won't close properly it might be as Jim has mentioned. If so, there will isually be the tell tale marks on the A panel where the hinged side of the door rubs on the panel. However it might have just fallen on its hinges due to rusting of the pillar or poor adjustment.

PS which auction/auctioneer did you buy from? The advert may still be there and I would like to see the wording. I have access to most auction sites, but not all

Incidentally, if the light pod is stuck in the up position, or down position and won't come up (oooh errr Missus) there is a manual way of resolving this until you have fully diagnosed your problem. Open the bonnet and look for a back ribbed knob near the pod.and, from memory, turn clockwise for up and anticlockwise for down
