ODB1 Connector

I want to use the ODB connector to connect a trickle charger, so I can keep the battery in good condition whilst the car is laid up in the garage, over the winter. The connector has a perm live and ground pins, so It would seem a good place to use.

Does anyone know where I can get the connector to go into the ODB1 connector on the car?

Trickle chargers/battery conditioners usually come with 2 or 3 different types of fly connector socket.

In my opinion it would be better to connect the permanent one to the battery and run the cable over the inner bulkhead and rest hanging by the driver's seat and seat belt. You can then plug in the conditioner without disturbing anything.
Others have installed +/- terminals in the boot for similar purposes.
Believe this to be better than using the OBD socket.

I have a Ctek trickle charger, and they sell a variety of permanent and semi-permanent battery connectors. I have a permanent connector fitted behind the drivers seat, but there are also ones which plug into the cigarette lighter. I personally wouldn’t like to risk putting a charger current through the OBD connector and ECU.

Me too. Very easy to connect to the battery and leave behind the drivers seat. Its even easier in the Ebola as the battery is in the boot

Also agree - I've used an AccuMate/OptiMate battery conditioner for years with the connector directly into the battery and the connection clip behind the drivers seat - very easy to connect/disconnect.
