Oil cooler feed/return metal pipe engine side

Postby 431andy » Wed 16.02.2022, 18:12

Hi all, decided to replace my original oil cooler with a Coolex one after reading all the great advice on here. I also intended to remove and replace both hoses (I have a local Pirtek so all good there.)

Unfortunately when trying to undo the engine side, bottom hose (using two spanners on the union accessing from above the car) the spanner slipped and resulted in slightly twisting and dimpling the metal pipe on its bend! The pipe that goes into the pack of the engine. :(

My question is, if this metal pipe has been compromised, how easy is it to access? From the parts diagram it’s unclear where about on the back of the engine the pipe goes - it seems to be just below the oil filter? Also it looks like both metal pipes have the same part number? A100E6397S.

Will it be an alternator out to access this bottom pipe if I need to replace it? Tried to upload a screenshot of the part diagram on page 278 of 368 on the parts guide.

Thanks all

Andy

Andy,

Both pipes of the oil lines adapter are combined and held in place with the bolt that is shown in the diagram.

You will need to use two wrenches to temove the engine side and also two wrenched to remove the cooler hoses from the adapter.

If you need a picture, I can see if one of my "spare" engines still has that installed so I can take a picture of it for you...

Just let me know if you want a picture of it on an engine.

Hi, thanks for your reply - a picture would be great. Do you think I’ll be able to access/replace the bottom metal line (with the engine in?) Can’t imagine how I’ll get two spanner’s in there to undo.

Thanks

I'll seee if one of the engines has the pipes still attached.
