Hello to all. My S2 in Medina Green, has arrived here in Lymington after a difficult journey for the trucker from Perth.

I have just taken her for a run and she goes well except for the speedo which does not work. Research on the forum tells me what to do.

There is one on Car and Classic which says that "like all old hand built cars" it rattles a squeaks. Well, this one does not, even over Hampshire's dreadful roads.

I shall post a photo when I know how to reduce the size of the photos.

Welcome John. For photos its usually best to upload them to a free hosting site like Imgur or Postimage and just post the link on here. Pics are essential!

Nearly there, but I must admit struggling to see why that didn't work - didn't work for me either, although I can see the image if I go to Imgur. Hopefully someone who knows what they're doing will be along soon!

FWIW, I have three image resizer tools that I use to load photos onto the forum. Which one I use depends on which platform I’m on:

    - Windows: Image Resizer for Windows 10 (download from Microsoft)
    - Mac: the built-in Preview app
    - iPad: a third party app on the AppStore called ImageSize.
I load the original, size to 1024 by 768 (maximum the forum will accept), and then use the “Upload Attachment” tab (under where it says “Submit” towards the bottom of this page) to load the photo. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get a message saying “Place In-line”. Click in your post wherever you want the photo to appear, hit the Place button, and you should find the photo pops up.

How hard can it be . . .

OK...sussed it I think. I downloaded the linked Imgur pic and uploaded to my Postimage gallery and a link from there worked on here as normal. Then I uploaded it to Imgur (anonymously) and tried to link it but it didn't work. Told me it was "hidden" but the button it tells you to click to unhide it was greyed out and didn't work. So I created an account on Imgur and then uploaded it there. The links for that work...and after a few goes it seems "Large Thumbnail" is about the right size. Use the Img button in the editor to paste in the link and here it is...
Image

So I'm guessing you didn't create an account on Imgur first John? Or if you did its giving you a link to your pic but with a pic status of hidden which needs to be changed.

Hahahahaha....

I've been asking for this for years!

Geoff, I assume it is due to the 2nd generation php.BB system that the forum is built on, and don't know if it is possible to add such a feature for easy upload??? :poke:

Well, I am sorry to be causing so many difficulties. In my defence I am in my 70s and I have no access to children or grandchildren who would sort this out in seconds. At work I used to say we should employ a child of 6 to deal with the tech.

I did open an account on Imgur and put more than one photo there. I am using a Mac and I do not know what "Preview app" means.

Anyway:
Speedo may be fixed; waiting for a road test.It fell out of the head rather easily and went back with more of a click. Needle nosed pliers helped.
Alarm and central locking now working.
Seat now slides properly. I have removed the spacers and the sun visor. It could go back about an inch or so more but that will involve redrilling the frame.
Washer bottle light is still on despite being full. More work required.
Scorpio alarm is weird. It makes a clicking noise whenever I press the brakes. Sounds like a very loud relay somewhere in the boot (probably something to do with the brake lights.)
Tracking down a leather kit for the seats which are pretty horrid. The Furniture Clinic recolouring kit looks quite good. At £80 it needs to be...
Sony radio is lovely. Does not seem to need the aerial which does not move.
Must look for a penknife for the tool kit.
I hope the wheel nut socket is somewhere. Still looking.
Hood rubbers are good. Door rubber is very poor. The triangular piece of door trim by the A post has just fallen off.

So, reasonable progress. At leasst the wind has dropped. And it is a lovely car to drive!

Hi and welcome. Plenty of jobs to keep you occupied and even more opportunities for project creep.

Just note that the outside rear seat spacer is thicker than the other 3. You might want to insert a washer = to the difference to prevent the frame/sliders twisting.

Penknife (Lotus) will be almost impossible to find, or cost a mortgage to buy. Good luck!

Wheel nuts are std 19mm (or is it 17mm?) socket size, unless you have locking wheel nuts. So you can use your socket set to remove. The standard brace is inside the spare wheel with the jack.

SE & NA are 19mm, S2 are 17mm ........ I replaced all mine with a set of black ones intended for a Vauxhall Corsa, and they are 17mm head.

Just been for a run

Speedo works. Big relief.

Temp gauge only just creeps above C.

Boost only shows under hard acceleration. Is that normal?

Oil pressure good.

It is the locking wheel socket I must find.

It is much more roomy and much quicker than my wife's MX5. And I can get in it with the roof up much more easily too. I think she may have designs on it.

Thanks for the tip about the seat spacers. Getting the seat lower even by that small amount is a big improvement.

Temp does stay low while driving, but will creep up to about 3/4 in traffic which is when the fans kick in and bring it back to 1/4.

And yes normal for the boost.

Hi John

No need to apologise; I should have been a bit clearer.

“Preview” is an app which comes in the current version of the Mac OS (Monterey). You’ll find it in the Launchpad. On mine at least, it’s next to the icon for the Photos app.

Go into Preview, open the file you want to resize (needs to be on your Mac somewhere) and then click View (menu at top of screen) - Show Markup Toolbar.

The 8th icon along from the left on the toolbar is the Resize icon. Click on that, and you’ll get a box which allows you to select a new size. From memory, the maximum for the forum is 1024 x 768 pixels.

You now have a resized photo, which you can save under a new name if you want.

Now, in your forum post, go down towards the bottom of the page and click on the Upload Attachment tab. Enter the name of your resized file, and, optimally, a picture caption.

Finally, click on the text where you want the picture to appear, then click the Place In-line button next to your photo name.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer; it takes much longer to describe than to do! :D

Thank you for going to so much trouble.

I cannot believe how difficult this is. I got into Preview but there was no way to find my images in Preview and I never did find the resizing icon. I may have too old a version.

So I tried Adobe resizing. I followed their instructions including the pixel sizes you set out, but despite putting in those numbers this forum said that my numbers were too high and so unacceptable. I tried three times with ever decreasing numbers but Adobe would not give me the numbers I sought.

So I give up.

On another point, I realise that the pen knife is very hard to find, but I have discovered that Victorinox do a pen knife which fits the place in the tool box, can be obtained in green or yellow and can be "personalised" with the word LOTUS. Good enough for me.
