Hi all.... quick question to anyone.... when you get to the rear engine mounting in the chassis; is it just the 2 captive bolts that sit under the starter motor... or is there more.... the are also 2 bolts a little bit rearwards with nuts. Do i have to remove them as well... diff to tell and I don't want to do unnecessary bolts.. cheers Mike

Yeah, sorry, but you have to take off all the fasteners between that steel shape that goes back into the chassis tunnel and the aluminum plate piece that is snug up against the gearbox. Yes, the access sucks for some of those nylocks.

Looking at my photos there should actually be three more. The original 2 under the starter, two on the underside of the steel section towards the chassis tunnel, and then one towards the top of the steel section at the back too.
But good news is that YOU ARE ALMOST THERE! keep going

Thanks TH and Simon... what a saga; those last 4 bolts took twice as much as anything else... and a 2-man job. So now that its out I, fortunately, don't have to worry about putting it back in (thank G!). I'm transporting the car up to Chris Foulds who is putting in a 2nd hand engine that I'm providing. Gives me a chance now to do some TLC to the engine bay. thanks for all the tips...Mike.

Hi Mike - is it your intention to refurbish your old engine? I know you had a potential HGF etc... or are you selling it as is?

Hi Rambo - I'm not sure at the moment. I want to get the new one in first and settled, hopefully with no snags, and then figure out what to do with the old one. But you are right... this would have been the 3rd HGF in 9 years (it had a v bad heat event in 2016 - I cooked it so bad that I'm amazed it didn't sieze on me), so I think the engine needs to have a thorough overhaul and check. I was hoping to get the car ready for Castle Combe but I'm not going to be able to meet that now. I have a big France/Spain trip in May... lets see how that goes with the new puppy.. cheers Mike
