Estimate based on sending the car to a good spray shop with me having stripped all panels off ready for them to do their thing......

.... obviously, if it isn't too bad, then a rub-down and spray/lacquer without stripping the panels can be done far cheaper (or even DIY), but I base it on wanting a decent job that will stand up to the next 25 years of use, not a quick job for a couple of years.

I know that some people have paid £10K for a top-notch job, and others have had a blow-over for under a grand - my estimate is for a good (but not necessarily concourse) finish.

It will also depend if the original colour is retained or changed (Angie wants a purple one ) - redoing in Pac blue is going to be easiest, changing to Azure will be a bit more, and a complete change, more again.

Same here - I was "winning" it last night, but now i'm quite a way down the bidders list..... with a long way to go.

I shall be revising my valuation during the week and may well re-enter the fray. My pricing is going on the achieved price of 'known' cars, and the 'failed-to-sell' known cars - so it may or may not be reasonable basis for a price.

I don't remember saying anything about £1500...... I would be looking at £3K for a reasonable job with me doing the strip/rebuild of all panels, then Ken doing the rub-down and spray (plus lacquer and polish).

A £6K quote isn't unusual - The bloke I use fits me in between insurance jobs, so isn't quick (but he is good) - and I do all the strip/refit of panels.

I have missremembered and confused your 3k with the 1500 that my dad was quoted for painting with the car already sanded.
I will eventually get the Blue one done. hopefully labor costs wont increase stupidly with the current inflation. but they seem to already have started.

my experience this far is that the issue is not the quality of the rattle can paint. but the thickness of the rattle can primers.

Looking at the photos my untrained eye noticed the missing cam belt cover and more worryingly the missing and bypassed coolant over-run pump.

I agree with your numbers

I see it as a £10K car, needing a paint job and new rubber bits (belts, tyres, seals etc).... if DIY-ing the work other than the technical side of the re-paint.

Obviously, if a sprayer buys it, there could be a profit in there, but if it all goes to a workshop, it will cost far more, so I base it on what it would be worth to me..... we'll see.

To be fair i didnt mention that because it is in the boot... along with the damp tool kit.

The header tank looks to have contained water of a questionable colour too, and i doubt that its down to red organic coolant

the guy put it on facebook asking what it was worth, with a couple of bad pictures, i offered 5k without seeing it, he said the owner wanted 6.5k, but now on ebay looks like it will make more, as its over 6k with just under 4 days, to go, will need a fair bit throwing at it as the cambelt looks worn, brakes look rusty and bodywork not great, hope whoever wins it can do all the work themselves, or its going to cost mor than is worth, but this is only my opinion,
