first oil change...

A word of warning for 'newbies'.

The white oil filter was advertised as a fitment for the m100 and I bought it, looking forward to my first oil change courtesy of a well-known car parts firm with european origins.

This was messy and 'impossible' - I'd dropped the slippery original down the back of the engine (as you do first time? ) - and I suffered horribly. I then had loads of trouble getting this white one to line up due to its size and gave up.

I left the scene of carnage and bought the smaller dark one from Halfords. Both were Crosland; the smaller unit was easy-peasy to fit...

My recent pain. Drained the oil, then could not get the old one off (there is very little space for a wrench, the best fitting one wouldn't budge it)

I gave up, refilled with fresh oil and took the car back to the garage that previously fitted the oil filter. I gave them some more oil and filter. They changed the oil and changed the filter for no charge

I have had difficulty with a geographically named motor factors; buying brake pads for a Mazda I ended up with some Citroen ones. Their website has a lot of blame for that ..

a yearly subframe removal wont do you any harm guys.
allows for a very close inspection of a lot of bits and bobs and makes the oil change a lot easier....

(it also makes filming the video for youtube possible )

Hur...so was my attempt at finding the filter, fumbling, dropping it down the back of the engine full of oil, needing to get it out from below with slippery rubber gloves then trying to fit something in it's place that couldn't possibly have fitted

It's a good job no-one made a video of THAT one - I'd have had to sell up and get something different to torment me and routinely empty my pockets (as well as challenge my sanity) in the same way that the m100 does Bless it's little plastic backside...

on a serious note.

if you have flexible head ratcheting spanners. the subframe removal is a lot easier than the description of the job suggests.

Isn't it great when you realise that a Forum written in English is being used by a Portuguese guy explaining to a Dutch guy using the vagaries of the language

(but I do agree that if you drop the prongeron off, the oil filter - as well as lots of other things we struggle with, like alternator, starter motor, secondary throttles and knock sensor - becomes really easy to access) - and you don't need any pigs tits to do it!!!!
