Half of the main binnacle lights seem to have stopped working, literally half.

The rev counter and the left half of the speedo. The right half of the speedo and the fuel and the temperature gauges do not. The warning lights all work.

Before I good through the hassle of removing and the subsequently more hassle of refitting it, are parts of the lights on separate fuses?

im finding your description dificult to follow.

an image speaks a thousand words. id ask you politely to take a picture of the cluster so its a lot easier to follow

i have very recently fixed an issue in mine which may be related to your problem. but i havent done the video editing for that one yet.

Hey Graaf, Its just the backlighting that is out, right (and not the actual gauge readings)?
Looking at the wiring manual (from what I can tell) the whole instrument pack is wired together to the rheostat (i.e. dimmer)
FYI, my lights go out occasionally and I just whack the face of the plexi on the binnacle. I'm guessing the old connections for the little lightbulbs get loose or corroded with age and a good whack has worked for me in the past.
Here is a view of the back of the cluster. You can (depending on you fingers) also try wiggling them (after removing the cover), and some folks have even been able to replace bulbs in-situ.

HOWEVER this one is just a frame from the video that will probably be released in july

you can see my copper foil repair in the bottom right corner.

the grounding lanes may be cut like mine was. i had no rev needle moving, neither alternator light neither a third light working (cant remember which one was) because the bottom furthest to the right lane is the grounding for the lights and was cut at the spot with the copper foil

I might start with something a bit simpler. There are two connectors for the instrument panel electrics, as you can see from the photos: one on the left, one on the right.

On my car at least, when I bought it, both connectors were inclined to vibrate loose, meaning things didn’t work properly. I managed to gently fettle the connectors so they fitted better, and also carefully cleaned the terminals. I’ve not had a problem since, so I might try that before you delve any deeper.

Sorry, i’ll try to upload a picture. I will say that the first line of my post was not clear. In the meantime I’ll try and make it clearer.

Sorry, when I said Whack, I meant more of a Vigorous Tap with your hand/fingers. The plastic can be marred by hard surfaces (as well as break). Wouldn't want you out a whole instrument cluster over this.
