I thought it a quite decently written article. Not too much smoke blowing and not too much negative, and some good PH responses. From my point of view, most people do not own expensive exotic alternatives (Porsche etc) and have never driven one either, so comparisons are unavailable. I had a few 'hot cars' of the 90's back during those days and always admired but could stretch to the square styling of the Elan.
Now i finally own one i am as happy as can be, i absolutely love it. Having said that though, i do tend to be a nostalgic type and would also love a MK1 Astra GTE or a Sunbeam Lotus, both of which i owned models of in their non-sporting clothes.

one of the comments i saw there was 100% on point

it was on the lines of
"you wont find a person who drove a m100 say anything negative about it, but plenty of people who never sat on one will have negative comments on it."

now i personally can only compare very few cars, but from expereince, the 97 alfa spider 2.0 that my mum has, does drive very similarly, but its still not as much fun as the m100, i could say the same about the peugeot 206cc although it was one step behind the alfa, it surely is a good non-leaky roof budget alternative to an elan.
but on the other side of the table, i have a celica gt4 6th generation. (one of the limited homologation copies) and that is a superior car. the fella who sold my elan in colchester back in 2014... he was driving another celica gt4... and was selling the elan... as far as everything that you can put a number on, its going to rate higher (including higher fuel consumption) but its nowhere near as fun to drive as the elan.

truth is, i will openly tell everyone that a celica is better than an elan in nearly all aspects that you can compare 2 cars.... but is it fair to compare to a FIA Group A AWD car?

at the end of the day the Elan is the car im driving to work every time i need to be in the office. because its more fun
