Best tyres for an S2

Good morning all,

what is the latest thinking on best currently available tyres? I'm looking for a good all round road tyre, though more concerned with grip than longevity, especially as do so few miles.
I picked up a nail in my front right Yokohama so will replace the front pair. Rears are Yokohama too.

Someone mentioned Avon tyres.. anyone have experience of these?

Well . . . If you read the Official Lotus service bulletin when the OEM tyres were discontinued, it says to use Pirelli (P6 IIRC).

I had my wheels refurbished when I did the suspension rebuild about three years ago. At that time I had a mix of budget tyres with three different makes on the car. Following some research, I fitted a set of Avon ZV-7 all round; they seemed to be a good compromise between performance and cost, given that I’m likely to replace them on age grounds before they wear out.

IME, grip is fine in both wet and dry conditions, and the wear rate seems reasonable. If I were being super-critical, I’d say the noise is very slightly higher than what was on there before, but I’d rather have decent - and matching - tyres.

Once i realised the tyres on my newly acquired car were over 14 years old i had to swap them out. After a couple of hours trawling the web i found Toyo Proxes TR1's at Demon Tweeks for £72 each. 4 tyres later i can report that they appear to be very good. Not noisey and very good grip in bends. They seem to be quite a well rated brand in the budget tyre world and they look good too (cos that also matters ).
Tweeks also do Uniroyals at a good price, and it isnt that far from you to get them fitted. It was a 150 mile round trip for me which was a good excuse for a drive and to wear them in on the way home.

If you can swing for Continental ExtremeContact, they're an amazing grippy tire. They far outperform my abilities as a driver.

I've always gone with Goodyear Eagle F1s

Not entirely sure why....something to do with them having a special sticky resin compound or something like that? Or maybe I've made that up??

Thanks for all the suggestions.. much appreciated. I'm starting to think I should replace all 4 while I'm at it as all are probably quite old...

If you look on the tyre sidewall, you’ll find a manufacturing date; 4 numbers such as “4516”. The last two are the year of manufacture (2016 in this example), and the first two are the week of manufacture, so week 45 would be sometime in November. It is recommended to replace a tyre over 6 years old, irrespective of wear.
