v-f-m thermostat kit

A recent RockAuto foray resulted in an 88C Gates thermostat with no gasket - my fault entirely.

82C thermostats are 'OEM' for our m100s and most seem to be sold w/out gaskets for some reason, which adds to the 'faff' factor.

I asked a local car accessory dealer (who amazingly has stuff on shelves - tho' not this item...) and he used the Wiki QTH100K part number to get this over the counter the next day:-



A £10-95inc vat + del Land Rover thermostat kit inc gaskets? - 'that'll do nicely, Sir...'

They seem readily available. A new one fitted perfectly and my temp gauge is steady at 1/4 and heater is toasty.

ive fitted a thermostat from a mini on mine recently and it seems to be below the 1/4 line always. ill probably replace with this sometime

as a side note. what does v-f-m stand for ?

I don't want 'to rain on your parade' but I can't see the "jiggle valve" in the plate that should be there for vertically mounted thermostats like in the M100's .. AND be fitted with it uppermost! It stops air being trapped in the thermostat housing.

If I remember correctly I'm using a thermostat specified for a diesel Astra Van .. it's got the valve but opens at a slightly higher temperature .. for better thermal efficiency and hence more power.

I'll add a hole and jiggle pin (small stainless split pin)

The QTH100 (K refers to the kit of gaskets) has a V shaped notch which acts as a bypass in the same way

The jiggle pin is just there to stop the hole fouling up
