Nice one, Jim.....

.... as spoken on Friday, this echoes the service I have had from our local health board - I know the NHS are strapped, but when push comes to shove, they do pull their fingers out.

Hoping for a good outcome from it all for you.

Good luck with it all Jim. Give me a call if you need to talk.

I'm sure that DaveT will be looking down and ids pleased that his plight has caused us all to be more vigilant.

Well, that was interesting.

Lovely lady at the Royal Berks grabbed 18 chunks out of the prostate today.

She was kind enough to give me a local anesthetic, so the procedure was only "uncomfortable. "

Onwards and upwards!

Was that the Truss biopsy Jim ?
My Truss biopsy gave me a score of 6 (surveilance only), but a month later I received a call to go in for a Template biopsy (general anasthetic, 25-30 injections) which found a tumour 12mm long in the centre of my prostate. Then I had a choice of robotic surgery to remove the prostate or radiation treatment. I decided on surgery, and it worked out fine for me.
Best of luck with it.

Woody

Thank you. My biopsy was TP ~ 18 samples with a local anesthetic

I'll hear the results face to face on the 21st June

Glad to hear about your outcome

Follow up visit at Royal Barks yesterday ..

I was expecting to see the Specialist Nurse but met the Consultant instead

His first comment was "it's not too bad"

Their Team had felt Active Surveillance was the best approach. My Gleeson was 3+3. However, the Consultant held the view that it was worth doing another biopsy under a general anesthetic to look closer at one of the two small cancer sites. This might be in a few weeks..(I suspect I presented well enough to justify saving!) The rest all being clear

The specific numbers mean less to me than I suspect, to others - but it looks like a fairly positive consultation overall - keep turning up and telling them you're fine otherwise, and they feel obliged to offer treatment (this is my ongoing attitude, and it has worked so far!)

A gleeson of 3+3(6) is stage 1. Generally means that the disease is all encapsulated. Gleeson >6 is stage 2 and gleeson > 7 is stage 4.

Mindful waiting/monitoring is probably the right approach as the older you get the slower cell growth is.

So definitely what you don't want to hear but very curable.

Thanks for that explanation, Chris - I was going to Google it, but you replied before I did so!

Ah, that makes sense, and sounds like a good result - my consultant didn't use a "Gleason" score when talking to me, so I didn't equate it to "stage" - but now I've Googled it, it appears to be solely used for Prostate Cancer, so that's why it wasn't talked about for my situation!

..sorry to about that ..

Hello again

I have just returned from the Royal Berks Hospital, where I received first-class care.

I had a biopsy under general anesthetic, as recommended by the consultant at the Urology Department

I expect I will receive an appointment to receive the results soon. Then a recommendation for ongoing treatment as appropriate

Thank you all for your support at this time

Jim

p.s. looks like I'm pi**ing Guiness at the moment ~but you prolly didn't want to know that

Urology Dept today

Extra biopsy revealed nothing more than previously found

~ best possible result

Gleason score stays at 6; watchful surveillance for the time being
