Rear caliper grumbles

What are the GM rear callipers I keep hearing about of and where do you purchase them from

The ones I fitted to mine are Cardone 184327 & 184328 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 04&jsn=509

However, I notice from Rockauto.com that they have no stock of 184327 - which is listed for the Rear Right of the Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (1989) 3.1L (but fits the Rear Left on the Elan).

As such, if I were buying today, I'd get NUGEON 9717269A & NUGEON 9717269B as a pair....... £35 each (plus VAT and delivery)

Hi thanks for reply ,do you know if you use same standard pads and cables in conjunction with these callipers

Yes, it is the same calliper, so pads are identical! (except if you're buying a pair of callipers, it's worth getting a set of pads at the same time as they are dead cheap.... I bought a set of Raybestos PGD377M pads for £6.46 when I got mine, but the same pads are now £14.51 - there are about 30 different sets on the website listed for the car, with prices from £6 upwards.......)

The cables will fit straight on to the left-hand (on the Elan) calliper, but you will need to use the handbrake lever from your old calliper on the right-hand side, and modify it as per my post above (or just use it as it is, without modifying it, and having a longer travel when you apply the handbrake).

To add to my previous post;

I have continued to use the "stopless" rear caliper body. I reduced the handbrake travel by tightening the cable, all is working well and the MOT inspector is happy with the rear brakes.

...on reflection, using a stopless body isn't such a bright idea. It means the cable is always under tension, and might compromise the ratchet adjustment

I'm rebuilding the "old" caliper (with thanks to Toby's YouTube offering) and will fit that soon
