S2 OEM alarms

Postby Saltire » Thu 29.06.2023, 10:07

As some of you will know, I have compiled a set of notes about the S2 Gemini alarm/immobiliser and how it works. For obvious reasons, I don't post this on the open forum. I am presently in the process of revising the notes to make them a bit more logically structured and easy to read. When I've done that, I intend to lodge a copy with The Rt Hon Member for Pembroke Dock (dapinky), for safe keeping.

In recent months, a significant number of people have contacted me asking for the write-up. Mostly, the requests have been polite, although one or two recently have been rather more peremptory, and subsequently accompanied by chasing messages if I haven't replied immediately. Please bear in mind that (as for all of us) my participation here is a voluntary and part-time activity, and I don't always check email or PMs every day.

I would also point out that it is commonplace for me to send the information and never receive any kind of acknowledgement. I always appreciate knowing that you received it safely, firstly because it tends to confirm that the material is in safe hands; and secondly because it's an opportunity for you to give feedback (Positive or negative) so I can help improve things for everyone's benefit. In fact, that should apply to everything we write on the forum, not just my second-rate wafflings :D

I hope to have the revised notes finished shortly, and will post again when they're ready.

Dear Jonathan,

have just become the proud owner of a 1994 S2 in metallic blue. The car is mostly working well but I can see the factory alarm/ immobiliser is on its way out (Immobiliser works but alarm triggers immediately it is set with the key fob .. and last owner turned off the siren) .. and having read the threads it look like the best option will be to remove the whole system and replace with something modern.
I would really appreciate access to your notes when you have time .. so I can assess if its a job I can do myself.

Had the PNM big front brake fitted .. and totally transformed the car .. can thoroughly recommend.

Cheers,
Steve

Jonathan,

im not sure what is the goal of your post.

I am happy to have a look at your document even tho i don't own a S2 (and cant see myself buying one either) and done my alarm and door lock work a long time ago.
you probably would only get back from me a bunch of notes like "this is not technically correct" (because i'm being pedantic) or stuff like "this is wrong" where in reality its not, just because the S2 is different to the SE and i am completely unaware of those differences. :bonk: :banghead:

Hi Joao

Apologies if I didn’t make myself clear

My remarks were not directed at every member of the forum, but rather those who have received notes from me and from whom I’ve specifically requested feedback (as I said in the third paragraph). I wouldn’t of course expect comments from those who don’t have S2s, because I wouldn’t want to waste their time asking them to write about something they have never experienced.

My hope was that by asking for feedback, we’d jointly get a better outcome than me rambling on alone. Anyway, if I’m out of line, I’m sure the moderators will be along to rap my knuckles and tell me to cease and desist . . .
