Just recently my Elan has occasionally started up a little rough for the first few seconds and my first thoughts were either coil packs, leads or injectors. As a cheap and cheerful first attempt at resolving though i thought id would try some fuel injector cleaner additive to the tank to see if it makes any difference. I did a bit of Googling to see what products get rated and came across the following video produced by Fifth Gear.

if your talking about stuff like redex.
i would say my experience is unconclusive. however i can say when my blue car was originally purchased it was dificult to start and it didnt run well. i have fiddled with some of its wiring and gave it a bottle of redex, i dont know what worked. but at the moment it starts on first turn and runs less rough. although it doesnt run right just yet.
its unfortunate that i keep postponing the work on that car, but theres always a different one that needs something more urgently.

I use injector cleaners ie Redex, Petrol Magic, Forté etc.... on all my vehicle at least twice a year. Never had any injector problems. Ever.
However, I'm experiencing similar problems to you on one of my M100's (no CEL or stored error codes) so am treating it to new spark plugs, ignition leads and coil packs. I have sourced all the gear for ~£100. If that doesn't work I will delve a bit further.
