Hi,
I met a mate with his Elan SE and he has the problem that the interior lights don´t go out when closing the doors.
He didn´t find the switches which should shut down the lights when the doors close. To be honest, I didn´t find them either

Any ideas?
Thanks.

There are 4 switches that operate the interior lights.
One in each door, one (2?) on the mirror and finally the main rotary sidelight/headlamp switch which pulls out to switch on the interior light.
My guess would be push the main light switch in and the interior light will go off.
Or check the switch on the mirror.

Yes, this was the solution.
Thanks a lot.
I didn´t know that you could switch on the interior lights on with the light switch either.
I´m driving the car for almost six years now.

Glad you've sorted it out!
Somtimes it pays to read the Driver's Manual....available on here in Manuals section when logged in. I had to!

So both you and your mate who had the problem hadn't ever bothered to read the Owners Handbook? It's on Page 13, top of page under "Interior Lamps".
It's well worth reading Page 27 to 29 for correct lowering and raising of hood -> ALWAYS WITH WINDOWS LOWERED and you won't damage the seals which are VERY expensive to replace.

worth noting that the SE interior light (probably the S2 as well) when working as they left the factory will not switch off the interior lights as soon as you close the door. they should stay light up for about 10 seconds after closing the door.
im not suggesting that theres no problem. just that the delay behaviour may be unexpected.
as far as the diagnosis.
given the amount of different things that can be the issue. starting from the books as Phill says and then coming back here with a detailed description of what is happening and what was checked.
a more detailed explanation of what was checked can help the couch mechanics take educated guesses

It's a massive assumption that the owner and/or his mate has actually got the Owners Manual. Many cars have lost theirs after 30 years. I didn't have one.
HOWEVER, for any Newbies, the Owners Manual is available in the Manuals tab when logged in. As are workshop and electrical manuals.

He's solved it. Pushed in the headlight switch and they went off, as suggested by me 6 days ago!

Everybody has an Owners Manual available to them. I pulled my spare apart and scanned it for there's only on f in Geof Smith to post. As you say, is in the Manuals Tab but for those unfamiliar with this site, just click here ..
