New ElanScan .ini file to try

Postby RonR » Thu 28.03.2024, 20:40

Now we have a version of ElanScan which works on Windows 10/11 I've been having a look at the "M100 ALDL protocol.ini" file which contains the ES ALDL Data Definitions, comparing it with a disassembly of the Prom code.
I've corrected and filled in many of the gaps in the ini file and tidied up the presentation in the ES Data window. It's still a work in progress so some of the names are a bit cryptic.

You should find the ini file in either:
    c:\Windows\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Windows\
    c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\
Depending on your Windows and ES versions.

If you'd like to try it just unzip the attached one and replace your ini file with it, and if you don't like it just delete it and ES will re-create the original the next time it starts.

If you have some saved ecu files you could re-examine them with this ini file in place to test without even venturing outside!

Hi RonR. We LEC-ers have recently been spoiled by yours and Matts' monumental EScan magic, so many thanks for that :D

I've just unzipped your 'M100 ALDL protocol.zip' update and applied it to both win10 and win11 ElanScan_beta versions - and it works exactly in the way you outline

With respect, though, I couldn't find your M100 ALDL protocol. ini file in either win10 or win11 using your suggested route - but I subseqently found a straightforward, direct access, route that worked in exactly the same way with both op systems:-

Direct access:

1. Tap the Win+R keyboard shortcut to open the run box.
2. In the run box, enter %AppData%, and tap the Enter key.
3. A new File Explorer window will open to the AppData’s Roaming folder.
4. Look for M100 ALDL protocol file, delete it then replace it with your (previously-unzipped-and-saved-on-a-usb-stick) new RonR upgraded version of this file.
5. Run and enjoy ElanScan in your usual way

Hope this helps

Evening, thank you to all involved in keeping ElanScan running...

I am running Windows 11, have downloaded the above zip file, extracted and moved to the correct location as per the instructions.
However, I am still not able to get ElanScan to communicate with the car. (I have used ES quite a lot over the previous 15 years and I am sure I used it a couple of years ago on the same laptop...

Any tips you could share as this is the first time I really could do with knowing what is happening with the car.
(It is possible that my cable is faulty, is anyone still making them?)

Nick,
The file above just replaces the ES Data definitions to correct and get some more detail in the ES output.

Have you downloaded the new version of ElanScan? it's HERE - After much scratching of heads we finally figured out why it was having trouble with Windows 10/11, and Matthias patched it so it should work with all windows versions.

Pinky's away ATM but tells me it will uploaded it to the Manuals area when he gets a chance.

nicowalker1 I've just tried the new ElanScan_beta with its brand new .ini file in win11 and it talks and logs data fine (for me)

See attachment; there were a couple of error logs over the short time period - but certainly not as many as before.

My win11 (Pro 23H2) has been updated from an initial early version load of win10 tho. Some later win10 loads and, I found, all win11 fresh loads wouldn't play with the original (legacy) EScan version, so is your win 11 updated from the later (22H2-ish) version of win10 or could it be a fresh win11 load? 'cos they still might still not 'play ball' I wonder...just a thought...

Perhaps someone within this 'dodgy' load history can verify that theirs works okay?

But I can verify that...my 'earlier version' updated -> win11 23H2 sings away merrily with all Matts' and Ron's updates.

Pretty sure mine is an update from 10.
Can you screen shot your serial/usb settings from device manager for me including the advanced settings?

EScan.zip

Here's a zip file with a bundle of screenshots to whet your appetite. (All Win11Pro 23H2 usb3)

They're just defaults. I dare say they can be whittled down to get rid of the 2 error logs. Perhaps 'someone in the know' could make further adjustments? I know RonR's sent one but I got tied up reducing these :)

ps hope this bundle works...never sent screenshots like this before :?
pps I reckon RonR's settings will be much better than my default but it's okay to experiment.
