NOTE: I've recently had problems reported with 2 installations. One looks to be related to a Closed Loop conversion - Long-distance diagnosis is always tricky, but it looks like the alternator isn't putting out enough current to run the O2 sensor heater, so it's probably fitted with the wrong Voltage Regulator. The other's a mystery for now, I'll know more in a few days.

Meanwhile a new batch of boards is being fabricated and the multiple-prom switcher is nearing completion.

I Can confirm that a brand new alternator from SJS will NOT operate correctly with a closed loop conversion.

When i converted to closed loop. the alternator charge light came on. I had to swap the alternator (for the 6th time in a year) with the one i refurbished using SimonP's kit, in order to get things running.

hopefully SimonP will be willing to disclose the exact regulator was included in he's kit, as id like to swap the regulator from the sj alternator with a close loop compatible one so that my spare is ready for close loop.

Just to add, I converted to closed loop and have also installed Simon's alternator repair. It all works fine.

AFAIK the original voltage regulator had Denso part number: 126000-0440, it has the "C" terminal and produces enough current from the "L" terminal to run the O2 sensor heater.

Last week I found the second installation problem, which was due to a faulty IC socket. The board tested OK when it was built, but the chip was making intermittent contact with the socket when in the car. Think I'll start to include a "Put it in a box and shake it about" test for future boards!
BTW I've replaced the duff board and all is now well.

Huge shout out to RonR for sorting the new chip set-up for me. I've gone closed loop on my Feb 1992 SE (wires were there), kept it standard rather than uprating the bhp and I''m absolutely delighted. It's pulling so much better than it was and cracking open the ECU and adding the board was really straightforward. 30 inch breaker bar needed to removed the bung to be able to fit the O2 sensor was the worst part - worried that I'd crack something after 32 years of it being there, but all good! Thanks so much Ron!

I’ve also fitted one of RronR chips (Everest) and changed to close loop,that bung for the 02 censor is a challenge ,bit of heat ,large bar and fingers crossed did it for me ,car responsive and getting roughly 36 MPG return ,,,,,,couldn’t be happier

I've got mine where your hazard switch is, the hazard switch where your fog light is, and the fog light where the switcher is - I decided that as it nearly blends in, but not quite, it would be better centralised in the 3 locations.....

Hello, I'm a new member here and wanting a chip upgrade for my 92 federal Elan. From what I've read, the 1499 closed loop Everest is the best choice for me here in Texas. I'm not sure about multiple eproms or maps are something I should consider. Please advise on current status and if these are still available. Thanks, Allan Rumsey
