as time goes by and this question gets repeated, i get more and more arrogant on my view.
ive been running E10 since the day it came out, originally under the assumption that the government wouldnt allow something drastically damaging from being widely sold.
then i looked into all the information about it, and there was a lot of conflicting information with only 2 things that seemed a consistent "consern" this was increased fuel consumption (however no one could agree on a value) and fuel lines premature deterioration (theoretically likely but only for "older cars" due to rubber manufacturing practices which no one could put specific dates against).
the cost of E5 is more than 10% than the going price of E10... and I Personally found myself with an increase of more than 5% on consumption just from having the base timing changed back in 2016 after changing the head gasket. the change from E5 to E10 gave me a wopping loss of about 1 maybe 2 MPG... (or maybe im just more enthusiastic driving as i get more confident about my own maintenance work?)
since i am not running distances of more than 200 miles between stations. i think its ok to stop an extra 5 times a year to save the money. the increased consumption sure aint gonna make me call the AA
as far as fuel pipes.... they are already 30 years old, they will give up due to age long before "increased wear" gets to them...(if) and when that happens, my pipes will be replaced with whatever rubber compound is resistant to E10... making it outlive me anyways.
obviously, got someone who drives their m100 less than 500 miles a year, using E5 is not a hit on the wallet... in my case. the tank gets topped up more than onse a month
