Intermitant Missfire

Postby jimp357 » Mon 06.05.2024, 10:21

So, been a while but here goes... Intermitant as sometimes is runs fine and sometimes runs with a missfire on start up. Hasn't started misfiring when driving. Either it starts and runs ok, or starts and runs lumpy...

Took the car out.. started fine, ran fine.. Filled with E5 + Castrol Valve Master Plus (combates the Ethanol), a spirited 10 miles and then 70 miles steady away. Sits all day.. Start car to leave and... not running on all 4.. on/off a couple of times but to no avail.. lumpy as hell, can't drive it like that. Call the AA, checks the basics but not sure..

Taken home... Where the bugger starts and runs fine so that I can put it back in the garage...

Now the hunt for the issue.. My gut is saying a coil pack.. (seem to remember that when they break down, funny things happen) open to ideas.. Checked the plugs, got a dirty one.. but noticed the lead needs a repair so don't know in thats the dirt.. Lead was repaired (I'll get a replacement).. Lead is sparking well, not the main issue...

As the song says.. Oh dear, what could the matter be.... ?

Is she just coming out of winter storage?

Cold damp? dodgy HT lead? Replace \ht leads

If it still misfires do htchecks and Injector checks while you have the missfire.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? how old is the fuel etc etc
