Was searching for ECU or ECM - finds NO results ?!

Searching the S2 register thread with a number finds NO results.

I don't believe the search function is fully functional/searching.

Unfortunately for you, it is working correctly. But it needs more than 3 characters to function......add a * and it'll find answers.

Nope - still doesn't work (well not for me anyway).

Tried a * in front and behind. Tried a % in front and behind.

Works for me - just did a search for ecu* and got 114 matches.

The search function in php.bb (the software used for the forum) is basic to say the least....

..... it requires 3 matching characters, and you can use the * as a wildcard beyond that. You cannot search for a 2-letter (or number) item, as it won't do that.

Like all other searches, it will only find things that you actually look for, and only if it matches the spelling (in search and target).

You can use boolean operators to help in searching for a particular phrase or combination of words - but again, it is a bit choosy if it likes it!

For example, putting "brake calliper" into the search box will not give the same results as "Brake + Calliper" as the first looks for a 2-word phrase, and the second looks for a post containing the 2 words, not necessarily together. - either way, it won't help if the person who wrote about the brakes wrote it as "brake caliper".... so maybe try "brake +break calliper +caliper" - to give you the biggest chance of finding something.... except then you have to sort the wheat from the chafe.

You may end up with a search looking like brake +calliper +upgrade +front +rebuild +pads -piston -vauxhall.......... and that may get you a few posts with the information you want to find the part number for the front brake pads for a hi-spec upgrade, whilst ignoring all those posts with the OE callipers - it is a bit of a lottery, but such is like!

Something weird is still happening I'm sure - doesn't search on certain words used (that are 4 letters,) within a thread. Haven't sussed it out yet but something's a little odd .

i had no idea the search funciton was that powerful. i may be able to find stuff in future if i bother learning how to make best use of it

Just remember, because it "can" doesn't mean that it "will"..... the results are not perfect, but it certainly can help.

Admittedly, there isn't much that I search for these days, and it is used more to find a specific post that I know exists (to either research something, or bring a post to someones attention), but as a general search tool to find out about something, it is okay, but not great! (I don't think Google need to be worried about competition).
