Elanscan Logger - Interest check

After a conversation with Mike MPX at Castle Combe the other day I was wondering if there was any interest in my version of the Elanscan Logger. When I got my circuit board made the minimum order was 10, so I have a few spare in a box doing nothing.

The logger contains an Arduino Nano processor, "Buck" Power supply, a Real-time Clock with rechargeable battery, a MicroSD card interface and a transistor circuit to interface with the ECU. It measures 4" x 3" by 1.25", mine lives in the glove box. A 32 Gig SD card (included) will hold many years of Elanscan files even if every journey is recorded (~1.5 years of driving 24/7). The MicroSD card files can be copied to any PC running Elanscan and opened at leisure, just remember to put the card back into the logger afterwards!

The software is a development of Matts' Uno Logger code, the main changes being the triggering of recording by sensing the "Engine Running" flag in the ES data, the naming of files using the time & date from the real-time clock, and the controlling of the power supply from the Ignition circuit at switch-on and the Arduino at switch-off, so it can be permanently connected without draining the battery (current drain is less than 1mA with ignition off).

Unfortunately there isn't a display as the Nano's memory is too small to fit everything in.

The price is likely to be around £50-60, photos to follow...

The interface on the one you lent me was very useful in giving confidence it was working/connected etc as it told me things I knew about my chip. I think you're saying that we wont get that? I guess it doesn't matter as you'll find out what its done when reading the card, but annoying if you've gone out to capture a fault and something silly meant it wasn't recording.

I’d be interested too, Ron. I need to revamp my whole ElanScan environment because I now have Win11 exclusively throughout the house. I therefore need to adopt the Win11-compatible ES, and it would make sense to have the logger at the same time.

If I can do it all at the same time, that will give me some incentive for a winter Project

Yes Mike, the one you used at CC was an experiment to see if a display could be added. Unfortunately the code to run it took up what memory was left in the Arduino so I had to shoe-horn the program in, it was very close to running out of memory completely, which could be why the files didn't get renamed once they were closed.

By way of indicators there are 2 LEDs on the front panel, the green one flashes when data is sent or received and the red one shows power is on, but if there's a problem it flashes a code much like the paper-clip codes from the ECU.

Sounds fine to me - once we're familiar with how it should look/work. I'm in!

I’m interested, it’s easier than having the laptop open and just floating around if I haven’t got a passenger to hold it.
Also, if it’s just left logging and something occurs, at least there’ll be more chance of diagnosing rather than trying to get a fault to replicate with elanscan running.

So - It's taken a while but I've finally managed to get the code for the loggers shoehorned into the Arduino Nano.

Extra refinements along the way include:

Different ECU communication intervals for engine not running / running so you can tell if data is being recorded
Flashing code at startup to show which Prom is installed (Open / Closed loop, Std, Kilimanjaro, Everest, Elysium)

I have 9 boards built, just need to fettle the cases and wire them up with switches & plugs.
