CO fail .

Sorry for the begging letter , but does anyone here have a " Gunston exhaust gas machine " i can use for 10 minutes ?
Happy to travel to use at yours , anywhere around Derbyshire or Notts , i am in Ashbourne DE6 .
Failed M.O.T on the CO , wanted to turn the CO pot down but i need the machine to set it and i can't find one for sale .

Can't help with kit, but can suggest you follow instructions in wikilec, turning as much as possible (but no end stop).
What was your fail reading?

There’s one machine on eBay and the last time I looked it was £105 with 72 watching .
The reading was 4.5 % .not great , not terrible.
I might try a local garage to see if they’d let me sort it out on their tester, there’s a Porsche specialist up the road. I’m gonna try him first.
The testing station didn’t seem terribly helpful and I got the impression that they were amused that the car had failed.
This is a garage that I’ve used for years, but I didn’t know that had changed hands recently.
As you say, I could wind back the CO2 potentiometer, but I just don’t know how lean I’m making it. If at all.

rob/d I've got one. (I've also got RonR's dual 1499 chip + an O2 sensor - which I'd thoroughly recommend cos it means MoT emission time is totally stress-free )

If nobody near you comes forward with one I don't mind lending and posting - in the tue tradition of LEC - as long as you're happy to cover the costs?

Plan C is to wind the pot back and retest without a tester .

If you know how to alter the co readings ,why don’t you take it to a local car repair garage and ask them to set it ,can’t see it costing a fortune and they must have there own co tester, I also have RonR chip and run closed loop — no more worries at MOT

It’s more of a time issue as you only get 10 working days of a retest.
It doesn’t really matter if I don’t make it I’ll just get another MOT done.
As I said I might go and see the Porsche specialist up the road as he’s always got 70s and 80s Porsches being locked at and I would imagine he’s the guy to see with older vehicles like ours.
If not as you say to get it that wouldn’t actually be a lot of money it’s just the timing is not great as I’m off on holiday in a week as well.
To be honest, I like to do everything to the car myself and I feel a bit funny letting others play with it.
One of the reasons i got the car in the first place , and I’ve maintained the car for over a decade without the need of a mechanic.

So i got a bit bored this morning , wound the CO pot 5 times anticlockwise, car runs well and seems more power on a run .
5 more , same ish .
5 more , somethings happening and less power .
5 more , gutless .
So the pot seems to work !

So i bought this....

Added Redex .
Adjusted timing , , went at the pot for CO ............and Crap !
CO off the charts , 6 % +.
Start changing sensors ?
The A100E6283F air temp sensor seems to test OK , but i cant find out what the resistance is supposed to be for a good one .
Disconnecting it however makes no difference to the engine , strange .
The coolant sensor again , tests OK .
Funny little misfire on idle , only slight , could be the massive over fueling though .
Any clues people ?

Yeah...sorry to be a bearer of bad news but, trust me, EScan will always be your best buddy in the first instance. I'm wondering if there's someone in your area that could scan your m100 with theirs and show you the ropes - before you get 'tied up' with getting hold of cables, finding + installing up-to-date software, interpreting data etc?

ElanScan isn't the only useful tool; it's been around for ages and only recently been made to work with the latest Windows software by talented LEC-ers. While this was being uprated BTScan and ALDLScan (both using a bluetooth/wireless adapter, now) were developed in parallel - in the assumption that well-aged EScan had run it's course - with BTScan screening on l/top again and ALDLScan being viewed via android phone. (Sorry MAC people...)

Even now, at this very moment, there's a new adapter being developed that will load data onto an sd card for you to take away and load onto your EScan, with the comfort of l/top or PC away from the garage or drive...

There's (now) lots around that enable us to diagnose our engine 'quirks' - and I'd draw your attention to the ElanScan/BTScan posts that are already established on the forum.

(They make a good bedtime read and will enable you to make choices in order to lavish attention on your m100 steed.)
