Dump Valve

Just had a DV fitted buy Lotus specialist, seems not to be fitted where I would have expected or where I have seen it fitted in pictures of elans!!

Any comments on he positioning and if its OK ?
I know not many people here like a DV, personally I like the whoosh, guess it personal choice, maybe I will get board of it who knows

Well, as you say, it isn't the "usual" position to fit it, BUT, as it is still in the same pipework (just closer to the Turbo, and before the intercooler) it should still perform in the way it is intended.

Fluid dynamics of the airflow will mean that the valve will operate at a slightly different timescale to if it were fitted closer to the throttle body, but it will be so minimal to make no difference.

im surprised to hear a specialist installed one of these.. i mean to my understanding they should be advising against it and proposing as the alternative a recirculating valve (despite the fact that wouldnt be needed either unless regular track use is to be expected)

Hi Tuga2112, yeah you are right, they didn’t really want to fit it, was me who insisted on it, used to have one on my first S2 a good few years ago, guess I am just reliving the moment, like I say I might well get board of it Just a bit of fun for now!

Well if you want to go whoosh why not!

The idea is to stop the turbo stalling so closer may be better. It's much neater there but with quite a long inlet tract there's a bit of stored air under pressure it will have to reverse direction to get out - with the valve by the throttle body it keeps going in the same direction.

Thanks Simon, appreciate your input, your’re right it does look neater there. Do you think the stored air that is ,as you say, under pressure, will cause an issue?
To be honest the woosh is not as loud as I remember so might be he location! Or maybe the DV is just a quieter one.

why waste already filtered air ?
and well.. the whoosh sound sure is to some people's liking, but generally froun upon.

but if you REALLY want the whoos sound, you dont even need a forced induction engine.

the mighty car mods channel was really good in the early days. i stopped following many years ago when they started making mostly builds instead of "off the shelf silly mods"

A valve which vents to atmosphere does not have to go whoosh.
Mine did (loudly) & I quickly got tired of the noise it made. Mine is a Greddy which came with a 'trumpet' for noise & also an attachment with a hose, for re-circulating. I fitted the attachment with the hose but instead of cutting & hole in my air filter & sealing the hose in, I routed the hose down past the engine & fitted a small air filter to the end. I cannot hear anything when I change gear.
