Not sure if you've got this sorted but as nobody else has replied I might as well tell you what I know in case others have a similar problem...
That wire from the bottom of the PS Pump is inside a black sleeve until a connector (push in blade type i.i.r.c) somewhere near the PS pipe change from hose to steel pipe - after, it goes into the front part of the engine wiring loom but I can't remember where. That wire goes back to the ECU to carry a signal to indicate the PS Pump is working and loading the engine, in a similar way to the aircon pump if fitted. That information is used by the ECU to use the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve to increase idling speed so that additional load on the engine from either, or both, does not stall the engine.
It's not really a critical item as it only deals with idling speed via the IAC so if it's not there or not working it's easy enough to use light throttle to increase idle rpm to stop stalling when steering is turned ... but far better to turn steering when car is rolling anyway and engine speed will be controlled by right foot.

Leave me alone, I think I know what I'm doing.
