hi. has anyone tried to remove the final silencer from the elan exhaust by putting a direct pipe? how could the sound be? hi from rome

way too loud i would expect.
i have a silencer and its already a bit too loud,

a few months ago i had a hole in the tubing that was (about 4mm diameter) pointing up against the body and the change in the noise was noticeable.

i can only imagine removing the silencer being way too much noise for any practical driving

I got my car with a straight pipe after the cat. It sounds like an old rotary or a racecar to be honest. It's fun! Good for daily driving? god no.

I couldn't live with a 'straight through' silencer on my SE, it only lasted a few weeks before it had to come off. VERY loud and boomy, noise peaked at around 2500 RPM. I felt embarrassed to drive it home at night as I knew it would wake up the neighbours!

We all like different things of course. Many of us have "uprated" the exhaust to improve breathing by increasing the bore to 2.25" or even 2.5" from the standard 2". Even with silencers in place, the 2.5 is too boomy and too loud for me to live with - so mine is a 2.25. I can only imagine how loud a straight pipe must be. Very much a thing for an occasional use toy rather than a useful car I'd have thought.

I have the 2.25" exhaust with no secondary silencer. When I raced it it was fine now
the neighbors know when I come and go.
Will be putting the secondary back in line.

I left for a fitness class at 6:30 am this morning. I definitely felt bad for the guy who lives above my garage. Definitely not a daily driver exhaust.

BUT....on a canyon road....it does sound pretty bitchin!

so it is better to remove only the central silencer and maybe mount the rear one in steel. I can have it done in Italy, with the same dimensions but a little freer.

I don't know the rules for Italy, but as the UK only recently left the EU I'm sure they must be similar to our MOT.
On the S2, the 'centre silencer' under the footwell is actually a Catalytic converter. Your car may not pass it's Revisione inspection if you remove it.
There are 'Sports' versions available to replace it, have a look at Piper systems for the M100 as an example: HERE

hi. yes we are a bit more permissive. I was thinking of removing the final, and leaving the cat and seeing how it goes, at the limit I can then make a steel final like the one on motorcycles,
direct with sound absorbing, without resonance chambers. thanks

The system I am looking at is the sports cat one so all seems good. I also believe the car to have been build in July '93. Happy days
