Hi all
Firstly, Merry Christmas

Secondly, I’m not that new, been about since 2003 under the name stevie_a when I first registered to the forum, I wanted a daily driver that was a bit different to the cars on the road at that time, sadly the Elan M100 was out my price range but I always wanted one. So, I got a white 1981 Triumph TR7. And ran that, surprisingly it was a great car. Forward on to 2011 and again started looking at the M100, even went to view a couple, I could not get on the forum so re registered at that time as stevie-a. then a mate of mine said “ My is not for sale BUT if you want to buy it I will sell it to you “ This car was an original 1980 Triumph TR7 with full history and 18,000 miles from new, I just could not resist.
On to today, after owning TR7’s for 21 years the Elan M100 is still attracting me.
I have now sold my TR7 last week, and I am going to view with full intentions to buy an Elan M100 S2 in Medina Green, with very low miles and interesting history.
So after all this time I’m finally going to own one.

Stevie, welcome (back?) to the forum.

I can understand your liking of the TR7 -it was a very under rated car of the era. A combination of factors dictated that it would always be looked down upon by the Triumph 'sport-6' purists, coupled with the BLMC build quality of the '70's and the lack of a coherent plant o get it admitted to the US market in large numbers. BUT it was (and still can be) a very good car in it's own right. I think the biggest mistake made was calling it a "TR" car when it didn't appear to be a natural evolution of the previous ones, but hey-ho what do I know?

Oh, and the lack of factory TR7-Sprints was a huge miss in the sales catalogue.

Still, at least now you can own an M100, and get looked down upon by some Lotus purists for its lack of 'proper' Lotus DNA.... whilst smiling to yourself about owning the best-kept secret to wear the Lotus badge.

and they have pop up lights ( everyone is a sucker fot pop up lights )

Well I picked up my S2 today, Number 122 Medina Green with 27,000 miles on it
Fantastic drive home, will play with it tomorrow .

yeah you're right, hopefully I have found the golden egg, drove lovely, Only one or two faults
• Roof catch on driver’s side needs replacing
• Turbo gauge bulb out
• Headlights milky

Well what do you know, i did

I have watched you're YouTube channel on the gauge bulb replacement, thank you it was very easy to follow and I will be doing this to the turbo gauge soon.

im glad you found one. low mileage M100s are getting rare like hens teeth, and finding a S2 with that low mileage is getting close to a museum piece

That’s the boost gauge illumination now done, man you need hands of a 2 year old to do that job.

I note the interior lights don’t work on thr mirror; I have not checked this yet, should these work anytime as in key out ignition off and still work

Hello, and congratulations on your new found distraction from your TR7. I migrated to he M100 from Spitfire ownership and have a fond (if not misguided) liking and appreciation of the Triumph sports cars.

Your interior lights should illuminate with either door open regardless of ignition on ans also can be switched on by pulling the main light awith out towards you. If they don't work it's either a wiring fault, fuse failure or the two bulbs have been removed/blown.

be mindfull that being an S2 it may be different to the SE

in the SE theres a "delay module" which keeps the lights on after you close the door for a few seconds (20 i think) i dont know if that module operates the same manner in the S2 because the S2 comes pre-installed with the alarm

Several points to clear up here:

- the S2 doesn’t have the interior lights delay module; it has a “lights on” warning buzzer instead. However, the system works in the same way as the SE/NA
- when I got my S2 (10 years ago now) the interior lights fuse had failed. It’s fuse A14, in the fuse box ahead of the passenger door in the footwell. I’d try the fuse first
- next step would be to check the connectors which are above the top screen trim between the mirror and the nearside A pillar. Again, mine needed a good clean before they would function reliably
- finally, check the bulbs, although I’d be surprised if both bulbs blew at the same time unless there was an underlying wiring fault. I replace my bulbs with LEDs, which give a much better spread of light and run at a cooler temperature

And finally, next time the battery goes flat and you discover you’ve left the light switch pulled out so the interior lights stay on, it’s fine to keep it to yourself. We’ve all done it, and we won’t laugh.

and the boot lid switch has an abit of not switching leaving the light on while the boot is closed. nothing that a small child cant diagnose for you. but simple to disconnect permanently as the light itself aint that good unless you start swapping bits
