Since you're going to have the fuel system depressurized while doing the filter, it honestly makes sense to do the injectors at the same time. I know some here don't like fixing things until they're a problem, but it seems MOST of us have experienced an injector failure. They usually fail in pairs. You can have your originals rebuilt, or somewhere in the wiki is a link to the RC injector kit which is plug and play.

Good point. I would hate to find out that after replacing fuel filter and plugs, it still runs badly and would have to get the injectors addressed then. I thin I would like to keep to stock. Pretty sure this car has not been modified up to this point. And I honestly don't know yet what it does normally, so no idea about a baseline if I need a "boost" with the PL8-0550's and the new 3 MAP. If I were going to replace with the same injectors that it has, what would I get? (RC is an upgrade as I understand it from reading.)

After having success with a fiat engine that has a single point injection system and using an off-the-shelf ultrasonic cleaner to recover a blocked injector.
My advice would be to take them out clean them all and put them back in don't spend money on something you don't need especially when it's something as expensive as injectors

I don't disagree with the premise of "don't fix things until they break" but for something like this and a car that's meant to be a project, getting a car to a certain "baseline" of reliability feels really good. Sure, the injectors MIGHT not fail, but chances say they will eventually.

My e36 BMW has almost 0 record of injectors failing. Those ones I cleaned and installed new o-rings and reinstalled.

The US is big and our trips are much longer than the average trip in the UK. If I'm on a holiday drive up the coast (8 hour cruise) and there are areas with very minimal cell phone reception where I can't get help. I'm going to do everything in my power beforehand to ensure I don't have a problem while on a trip. It's a peace of mind thing.

Slowly progressing. New plugs came in. Will put those in to get a baseline reading on how it runs before cleaning injectors and changing the fuel filter.

Also looks like the previous owner already upgraded to Willwoods on the front. Not sure what's in the back though. Is there an upgrade for rear calipers that is recommended?

Got new plugs gappend and installed. Now the fun begins. Still the cold starting us rough and a lot of "coughing". It wont hold at idle, sonhave to keep on revs until engine warms up a bit. Then it idles at about 900-1000.

Performed a compression test on each cylinder. Counting from passenger (US) side, #1,2,3 all showed between 140 and 150. #4 though was a bit concerning. At first there was no reading at all after a few good cranks. I thought the cylinder rings or head gasket was shot for sure. Then as I kept cranking and the engine started running on the other 3 cylinders, pressure in 4 read a bit sporadic- jumping to 100, going down again, jumping to 120, going down, then it settled at 150, and after shutting off the engine it held the pressure. Makes me think rings and gasket are ok, but perhaps something is going on with the valves. Any ideas you guys can suggest?

Today I replaced the fuel filter and going to take out the injectors. Feom the looks of it the wite clips are missing on all of the injectors' electric plugs - odd. And two of the injectors are noticeably different, so they must have been replaced previously.

Pulled the injectors. They look sad. Looks like two have previously been replaced and I do no think the properly match the other two original ones. I can see they have 3 holes on the sprayer side vs single on the originals. I think they are for Geo Storm/Primm.

Hey guys. So I got the injectors cleaned with ultrasonic machine (thanks Tuga2112). Also tested them and they all check out. But spray pattern is clearly different between the pairs. Also as you see in my previous posts ( viewtopic.php?f=38&t=30362&p=383271#p383259 ), two of the 4 are clearly different and one of the 4 is actually physically bent on the nozzle. So, as I am trying to get to a good baseline, I don't trust putting them back in as is.

I am going to get a new set of 4. Looking at the earlier suggestions I am between these thee (two?). The Delphis are definitely higher price now that what I am reading they cost before. Is there enough advantage in RC injectors? Are they better quality than Delphis? Trying to decide if it is worth a 30% higher price for RC's. Also, are the ones from RC same ones as what Evasive is selling?

I was texting a lot with Sailbad as he was going through that last week. He ended up going with a set of these and now his car is running back to normal. Hopefully he can comment to confirm his experience

Thanks for the suggestion. That turned me off from RC's real quick. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on these. Also remanufactured, but a good amount cheaper so I thought will give them a go and report back here.

So replaced the fuel filter with the K&N PF-1000 and new GM O-rings 22514722. Had a bit of struggle disconnecting from the old one. Seems thebold O-rings were pretty deformed and probably wrong oversized ones.
