Consequently, I've been a bit on edge but had a PSA yesterday and the result is that the levels are undetectable so all is good. Time for some Cava!

PS do not partake in vigorous walking when you've got a catExactlyheter - internal chaffing is not pleasant.

Exactly what happened with me, except the margin was 3mm. Ended up having to have radio therapy to mop up what was still inside me. Eleven years clear now. Sorry I haven't been in touch, for some reason I haven't been getting email notifications so missed all of the bit about your op.

No problem Chris. All is good… very good in fact:
I think the nurse should probably not have answered my direct question "Had it broken out?" in February as her letter didn't arrive until the day (in March) when I was meant to have the telephone consultation with the consultant. I sat for half an hour waiting for him to ring but heard nothing and was getting a tad stressed - a couple of years ago, I waited for a telephone consultation while the consultant was sat in his consulting room waiting for me to turn up thanks to an administrative cock-up! So I rang all the numbers I could to try and find out what was going on and eventually managed to get hold of someone who eventually rang back and said he'd been called away on an emergency - nice of them to tell me. I threw a bit of a wobbler and asked for a face to face which eventually took place in April and he confirmed there was nothing to worry about. There was a small area outside the the margin where he had folded and squeezed the prostate to get it out the tiny hole in my abdomen, otherwise if was all contained and no signs of anything outside.
I had another PSA last Friday morning (and got the results that afternoon as I eventually got access to the hospital database and didn't have to wait 2 or 3 days while the hospital sent the surgery the results and then someone put them on the Patient Access database) and it remains undetectable.

In summary, after being on quarterly PSA tests and the occasional MRI and biopsy for 6 years, I have thankfully caught it just in time. I have had very few symptoms and certainly none that would have had me going to the doctor so I dedicate my remaining years to the daft Scouser who persuaded me to go and ask the doctor to put his finger up my bottom. Cheers Dave, wherever you're making mischief.

Excellent Geoff, pleased for you. I'm still having PSA tests every 6 months which is ok by me. My score is 0.01, this is the lowest that the equipment at the lab can read. Sounds like you and I have had a very similar journey except for my RT.

Fellas, if you're coming up to 50 get yourself tested and then have regular checks even if you don't have symptoms.

Geoff,
Glad all is well, I am having the PsA tests every 6 months. and getting 0.01 results as well.
I thought I would only have to take the PSA tests for 5 years after the op, but now they are telling me I will need to have them for the rest of my life.
I too owe Dave a debt of gratitude for for his help, and advice about Prostate Cancer, and having the Prostate removed before the cancer had a chance to spread.
Cheers,
Woody

My PSA is traditionally 14, but has crept up to 18.

I am booked for a non-urgent biopsy under general anaesthetic ( the local biopsy doesn't reach one on the cancer sites)

Three weeks ago I had a biopsy under general anaesthetic. This revealed some grade 4 cancer (about 10% of the cancerous area) This means I have a Gleason score of 7 (3+4)

Then last week I had a bone scan, and an appointment scheduled for today (13th August) to reviews my case with the Urology Team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital

The bone scan was clear which is a relief.

One school of thought was to simply carry on with the active surveillance on it's own.

As an additional option, see an Oncologist to see if hormone treatment to slow the cancer progression might be appropriate

The hospital are hoping to get me an Oncology appointment before12th. September. (the date I will get my new knee)

Thank you for your support and kindness
