Cylinder head torque bolts

Hello there! my mechanic is putting back the head gasket of my Elan but he is not sure how tight the bolts should be. I've searched the forum and I've seen the following data: 1st step 40nm and 2nd 78nm. Hovewer, he thinks that it might be not enough. Could someone confirm it? Thank you very much

Hello, and welcome!
The numbers you quote are the numbers that Lotus publish in the workshop manual (and what I always use)......
..... now that your first post on here has been approved, and you are 'logged in' - you will see a tab at the top of the page called "Manuals" - this is a link to a website with all the Lotus publications for the Elan (including the Workshop Manual) which may well help out you and your mechanic for the job.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

It’s 40 Nm then 78 Nm, full stop. That’s factory spec for the M100 Elan’s 1.6 Isuzu engine. If your mechanic thinks that’s not enough, he’s wrong.
