Which Battery?

I need to replace my battery. M100 workshop manual states Type 027 but every factor online quotes Type 075 for my registration. Anyone know for sure? Or are either ok to use?

I have an SE and have a Bosch S3 005 which is a type 027 and height isn't an issue for the m100. I'm not aware of any SE/S2 differences in battery space but if you have an SE this 027 type will fill the space nicely...

Chris has pretty well covered it, but I have type 075's in mine as they had a bigger CCA capacity than the 027 when I was looking (and 065 is a lower powered version of 075, with the same footprint).

So, basically, any 027, 065 or 075 will fit - then it is a case of choosing what you want at the price point you want to pay.

I have a Yuasa YBX5075 in mine (now been fitted for 6 years) and an Exide EA612 in Angies car (3 years) - the Exide was cheaper than the Yuasa, with a 4 year warrantee instead of the 5 years on mine - but is still a good unit..... I'd expect both to last well beyond the period for free replacement.

A 'cheap' unit may or may not last just as long, and work just as well, but when the Exide can be on your doorstep next day for £56 from Tayna Batteries, I wouldn't risk it.

There’s no difference; I have an 075 like Dave’s in my S2. My previous one was a Yuasa, and I now have a 5 year guaranteed Bosch, only because they were available and the Yuasa was out of stock. I believe both batteries are made in the same factory anyway

Thanks for your responses. Because the existing battery was so flat I decided to check the battery drain with nothing switched on. It was just under 3Amps. I know from searching the posts here it should be in the tens of mA. The car is completely standard except for a Cobra alarm. Before embarking on a mass session of fuse pulling, has anyone had a similar experience and could point me in the direction of the more likely offending item.

gwizz22 a modern radio that saves channels could be the culprit. Tuga found out that it needs to be wired up in a special way. I've also disconnected my digital clock since mine burned out a resistor. I thought that might be a high current drain that I don't need and, of course, alarm/immobilisers of our vintage are really handy at leaking charge in a big way. Earthing points too...

There's also radio telephone fuses behind the battery which I disconnected. Mine's always connected to a battery conditioner now which gives me confidence.

These days I carry a 'zapper' in the boot too, which I've never had to use on the m100, that has solved embarrassing flat-battery problems on a couple of car-meets.
