Elanscan on M chip Mac via VM

Hi all,

I haven't seen anything about this, so I thought I'd let people know. - I've got Elanscan working on my M1 2020 MacBook Air using a VM.

My setup:
* Parallels windows VM on M1 2020 MacBook Air
* Elanscan installed as usual
* FTDI drivers installed. You need to install the Windows versions, but in my case, because it's an M chip, the ARM ones. For those using Parallels, these need to be placed in the Windows C drive, as Windows will not detect the device if you leave them elsewhere.
* FTDI cable drivers set up as usual on Windows.
* Ensure you authorise your computer to pass the FTDI cable through to the VM.
* You will need to install the Windows version of Excel if you want to be able to export to Excel

Thats all. Just thought it might be useful for someone .

yes, the volvo VIDA software is also provided in a VM format because the setup is particulaly difficult to do.

i find elanscan to be rather trivial. but i can see how a VM option would make life easier to folk less tech savvy.

For me it was more because I don't have easy access to a Windows computer, but I do have a MacBook and as far as I know elanscan won't natively run on mac.

I assume the Volvo interface and the Elan are unrelated?

different plugs. and completely different softwares or instalation processes.

but.. related as... "way to see data on the computer from the car" and "awkawrd things to setup"
