Fuel Pump

Postby Neil D. » Sat 02.05.2026, 11:31

Dear all,

A call for help, I have been fortunate enough in the past, but luck has just turned.
I recently collected my LHD S2 from the winer lock up.
Jump started the battery, disabled the original Gemini alarm with the key fob, and started the car.
So far, so good.
During the drive home, after 20 km the car stalled. As if it had run out of fuel. Maybe a warning bulb not working, so I filled up with 10 litres of fresh fuel, but no restart.
I have investigated and this is what I know.
The 7.5A fuse is good, and there is also 12 volts on either side of the fuel.
The inertia cut of switch is fully functional, and the car is not upside down.
The pump is functional. And the car starts and runs with a direct 12V supply.
The fuel pump relay is good. (swapped with horn relay to test). I can also feel it “click” for 2 seconds when ignition is switched on.
There is no continuity between the 7.5A fuse and the input to the inertia switch. As if the wire had a break.
EMK 4-5 shows connections to the ECM, could this be at fault. But as the relay “clicks” I think not
Is the Gemini alarm system linked to the fuel pump ?
In advance, thank you for any help and advice.

Neil

Hi, the wiring diagrams for the S2 (found in the Manuals section in the header above) does show that the immobiliser has a link between inertia switch and fuse, I guess this is applicable to the LH drive S2.

Thank you Kens for the updated S2 diagram which I did not have.

The problem is now solved, I traced it down to the 2 purple wires that are connected to the siren. Thanks Jon "Saltire" for the documents you sent me last year.
Took the siren apart and the PCB has corroded solder connections.
Decided to connect the 2 purples together, et voila.
The battery pack still read 1 Volt.

So all in all, after 45 years of Lotus driving, and with a 30 plus year old Elan, this is the first time that I did not make it home.

It has given me the opportunity to give the battery compartment a good clean.

Enjoy your summer motoring,

Neil

Good news that you found the cause, keep an eye on those other 2 immobiliser circuits!
