Silky...

Postby RonR » Thu 02.07.2026, 19:09

It's with a heavy heart that I'm about to list my July 1992 M100 for sale.
I've not been using it more than once a month lately as I resent paying a ULEZ charge each time I drive it the 2-3 miles to get me out of the zone.
A 2007 Europa S is in my future, and I don't have the room to keep 3 Lotuses, so one has to go!

Don't worry, I'll keep hold of my spare ECU so I can continue to supply ECU upgrades to you lovely people.

Specs:
One of the last SEs off the production line.
Silk Red with reasonable paintwork, 97,000 miles but mechanically in great condition
Converted to Closed loop operation and the prototype ECU Switcher is included, as is the automatic Elanscan Logger
Currently fitted with Porsche seats (Driver's side has a patched split), but the original raven S2-type leather seats will probably go back in before sale
Topshell and Bumper were repaired after a very light frontal accident (Unrecorded). Good Second-hand topshell and bumper included with car
Hi-Spec front calipers, Jamie's Honda rears
16 inch S2 Wheels in 'shadow chrome' colour

My 9-year journey with the car is documented on LEC here: viewtopic.php?f=80&t=26504

Here's a quick summary of the work carried out over those years:

Full Engine rebuild in 2023:
Skimmed Head & Block
Valve seats re-cut with new bronze valve guides
New Rings, Big Ends, Mains, Thrusts
Oil hoses rebuilt
New turbo cartridge
Piper exhaust and PCE
Samco cooling hoses
Coolex radiator

Transmission:
BCN Gear cables and short shift (set to medium throw)
Inner CV Joints rebuilt with new tripods
Outer CV Joints replaced
Jackshaft bearing replaced
New Clutch, cover & release bearing

Interior / hood:
Door carpets replaced with Alcantara covered panels
Nardi (Impreza) Steering wheel
Jamie's one-piece Windscreen and A-pillar seal
Metal Monkey dial faces and LED illumination

Chassis / Suspension / Brakes / Wheels:
Suspension cleaned, either Powder coated or Epoxy painted, and rebuilt using the following parts:
Poly bushes for wishbones, rubber everywhere else
New upper & lower balljoints and Wheel bearings
New springs and adjustable AVO shocks
All visible parts of chassis either Powder coated or Epoxy painted
Refurbished S2 wheels
Front brake conversion to Subaru 295 mm discs
Rear disc / bearing conversion to Astra sealed-for-life bearings and Astra discs
Rear brake valves rebuilt with new O-rings
Rear brake conversion to Jamie's Honda calipers

Electrical / ECU:
DAB Radio with USB & Bluetooth
Closed Loop conversion
Prototype automatic Elanscan logger
Prototype Prom Switcher (Zero boost / Standard / Kilimajaro / Everest / Elysium)

Not so great stuff:
Bodywork could do with some love - I've done most of the mechanical work, the bodywork was next on the list, i.e:
Front clam has some sinkage marks from previous small accident (Good second-hand clam available with car)
Front Bumper is a fibreglass replacement with some cracks where the rubber lip touches kerbs (Good plastic bumper available with car)
Rear flanks have multiple tiny stone chips
Small spider web cracks where it looks like someone's tried to get golf clubs to fit in the boot?
Small area of fraying on N/S base of hood

Heater/blower doesn't get completely cold, if I get time I'll sort it before selling.

The car will be available in a few weeks, but let me know by PM if you're interested in the meantime.

Cheers,
Ron

have you checked if classic cars (40 years) are ULEZ exempt ?

They are Joao, but the Europa I'm looking at is a bit newer than that, 2007 - so one of these...

the point is that the early m100s are 89. and thats effectily 3 years away from being exempt

your being a later SE is 6 but potentially 5 years away from being exemplt

i know for the tax exemption purposes, its the built date and not registration date. meaning you may be able to get one less year waiting.. which for someone who has invested so much in a car for so long. may be worth considering...
