Black SE which needs some love

Postby maz_r » Wed 16.09.2026, 14:45

Due to a combination of a stupid self-inflicted injury and a house move, it is with a heavy heart that my 1992 Black SE has to find a new home.

The car is well known on here, although I have not been active for many years. The car has stood unloved under a cover for the last 6 years whist I clung to the hope that my damaged nerve would heal but sadly that no longer looks likely; basically, it means I can't drive a manual car for more than a mile or 2 :(

The car is a black SE. You can see many pictures of the car, along woth some of my honest trials and tribulations on this thread: YHO Chronicles

Amongst its upgrades are S2 wheels, S2000 seats, PNM brakes front and rear, replacement hoses and an aluminium coolant system. The cost of those parts alone far outstrip what I am asking; the good news is you get a whole car holding them together :D The cobwebs you get for free. I also have loads of paperwork to go along with the car.

It is not advertised elsewhere as I would really like it to stay in the community and get back on the road.

It will need to be collected on a trailer or transporter as it doesn't have an MOT and it could be yours for £2500 (no offers please as I'd rather keep it than let it go for less!)

If you are looking for a project to get back on the road....

(p.s. I also have a bunch of spares which could be available by separate negotiation including a full A/B/C 'Jamie' seal kits, 'John Callaghan' short-shift kit, new sump and many (many) more!)
(p.p.s.I probably should have said it has approx 89500 miles on the clock)

Martin,

Sorry to hear of the woes, and hope your physical damage either mends or becomes manageable.

That is a bargain for someone - I don't expect it to be around for long.

Have you considered selling the S2 wheels separately and letting it go on 15" OE ones??

(If I'd known a month ago I'd have dropped in on you - I was working up that way for the Athletics Championship...... now I'm a bit further down at Stratford doing some driving for JLR)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

If you were a bit closer I’d be heading over straight away. Black ones were very rare. Sounds like a good project for someone. Glws

Martin, I certainly noticed you were missing in the west mdlands catch ups by the time i moved up north, i was holding on a few microcontroller questions for you.

its sad to hear your absense was due to such reasons. my best wishes to a eventual recovery or at least improvement.

i promised myself i wouldnt get another project Elan. but this is extremely tempting. i know this car well enough to be confident it would be a simple re-commissioning job. (at least for someone with my experience) from where im sitting it certainly appears to be an absolute bargain... and to top it up. black. just fitting in nicely with the Celica and MR2 color scheme.

unfortunately this is the wrong time for me to get another project at hand, is been 10 years and the blue car is still waiting to be sorted, im hopefully about to put the MR2 on the road after 8 years in my posession and 1 year on-and-off restoration.

i dont imagine it will stay here long (in fact i started typing this yesterday, it may be gone by now) but if its not. im happy to tell people i know in the area about it to help expedite the process.
