power steering

On what are you basing your diagnosis?

the guy who's trying to sell it to me said it was and the fact that the steering is a lot heavier than he had been used to recently and also I found it heavier than any of the other cars I'd test driven....also gave off a few hisses on  full lock.......although was quiet though the turn......come to think of it most cars Ive had with power steering give off a bit of hiss at full lock although this was decidedly louder than I was used to...

Prepare yourself for an onslaught of messages about the bag of snakes that comes standard with every elan. They're placed to be squashed and woken up on full lock. It's the noisiest power steering on the planet.<br>Mine's had a weeping seal for about 5 years now and still functions perfectly. It is a bit stiff (as was my last one) but that's normal. Difficult to comment on the degradation, do you know anyone you can compare steering stiffness with?

I had a few probs with the pas a little while ago which (touch fekking wood) seem to clear itself. Chec k for air in the system open the pas fluid reservoir get someone to turn the wheels thru full lock a few times and see if an bubbles appear in the reservoir. check the gaiters on the steering rack to see if there are any fluid leaks. Apparently racks and pumps can be refurbed don't know costs tho. I have been told that steering rack removal/replacement is one of the difficult jobs on the car so good luck
