Hood Adjustments

Hi to everyone. This is my first post so please forgive any errors. You guys and gals have a huge wealth of knowledge and skill that I can only admire. I have recently purchased my first elan. What a great motor!! However, it is going to be an ongoing project to bring it up to my standard. As such, I would like to know if anybody has actually made any adjustments to the hood in order to make it sit evenly on all the seals, all the way around? I have checked the Lotus repair manual but am still unsure if I should leave it to skilled people. What do you think?  ???
