I think so Sy,<br><br>I has two part to it, the main clutch and the pressure plate.<br>I think it is uprated, but i have not seen the old one to compare.<br><br>You should have yours soon and would like to know what you think.<br><br>Game-on

Thanks Marie.  Please take a look at my question for all, at the end of this post.  Being as you're a mechanic I'm hoping you may have the answer.<br><br>I now find myself in a dilemma.  I'm bad enough when a have two choices...I now have three, and I'm going to depend on you folk with clutch upgrades and/or mechanical backgrounds to help me here.<br>When I ordered the upgraded clutch I assumed (don't know why) that I'd get just the clutch itself.<br>I now have:<br>a.  The OEM pressure plate (and a spare one BTW).<br>b.  An uprated clutch supplied some time back by Dave M (the integrity and quality of which I don't doubt - because he only deals in quality aftermarket modifications) but, I'm not sure of its degree of upratedness (no, I know it's not a word!).<br>c.  This ugly black thing that's come with the new clutch.<br><br>I suppose option "a" is the easiest to discount given that it's designed (supposedly) to operate with our OEM (largely bullet proof clutch).<br>Using the same logic (or similar anyway) option "c" should therefore be the obvious choice because it comes with the new clutch.<br>Option "b" could be the "nigger in the wood pile" (no offence intended - it's an adage- http://www.bartleby.com/110/702.html).<br>Question for you all.  How do you check the level of uprate on a pressure plate?  What's actually uprated - the springs - the surface?<br>Dave, do you have any figures or recall the spec/history of the plate you sent me?<br><br>I'll add pictures of the three suspects later...<br><br>Sy

The springs are not uprated, they only serve to cushion the engagement of the clutch to reduce chatter.  Racing clutches many times do not have springs as you just want to "grab & go".<br><br>What is uprated on a PP are the "tongs", the many finger-like protrusions radially positioned on the inner-circle which push down on & therefore clamp the clutch disc to the flywheel.  The more force they exert the tighter & more tenaciously the clutch disc will hold B4 slipping (the material on the clutch disc also serves a role in this, but to a lesser degree).  <br><br>That is a 6-puck disc in your picture, which is indicative of an up-rated clutch,  Of course the PP is a different piece.  It is very hard to say by just looking at a PP how much force it will exert.  If the 'fingers' are at a greater angle or made of a higher tensile-strength metal I suppose makes the difference.  (Try bouncing on it like a trampoline & see if you go higher in the air! ;D )
