Oil Cooler Replacement

Hello All.<br><br>I have just replaced my oil cooler on my M100 and was not willing to pay the over inflated Lotus or SJ prices.<br><br>I contacted Think Automotive Ltd  on 0208 568 1172 who are based in Isleworth - Middlesex and spoke to a guy called Adam.<br><br>He sent me a direct replacement which is exactly the same as the original made by MOCAL OILO CONTROL SYSTEMS.<br><br>Total price was £134.00 plus £6.95 for UPS postage. Did anyone ever look into a thermostat for the oil cooler? From what I know running with oil that is too cold is almost as bad as too hot. Now that Winter is almost on us I am thinking of blanking off the cooler but would rather fit a 'stat if it is easy ::)

;D Yep I cannot remember who I sent the above info to but I am pleased it is getting spread around the Elan owners. <br>The original suppliers are Setrab.<br>Think Automotive will also be able to sort an oil thermostat and fittings to fit in your existing oil system, but I dont think it will be cheap.<br><br>Another point of interest on page 58 of their catalogue they show a water circulation pump which looks to be identical to the re circulation pump mounted next to the radiator on the Elan. Would the Think Automotive remote oil filter adaptors fit the M100?<br><br>Where could the remote filter head be located?

Could be a load of rubbish the following but ...<br><br>They should ISTR be placed as low as possible.  But do not place them where they protrude below the car line like some car manufacturer did ..... as they are easily removed by bumps, and a few secs later your engine is toast!<br><br>Any where.... the best place is probably near the oil cooler pipework, although not having had a good look there may not have the room.

I dont know the ins and outs of what is the best position for the ISTR but behind the oil coolef in the duct there is quite a lot of room.<br><br>Cheers Mike

Tried to get oil cooler from Think Automotive today, & apparantly Adam has left, & nobody else new which one i was on about ( without sending one to them ). Do any of you guy's have any reference numbers or something, to give them something to go on, because Lotus want £300 for one of there's, which is bloody ridiculas !

I have an oil leak around the oil cooler area but I'm not sure if it's the oil cooler dowty seals or the pipes. As I was ordering a cam belt from Steve at SJ I thought I would ask how much the oil cooler would be if I had to replace it , He said that they had just recently came down in price and are only 165 quid. Hope this helps.

I can confirm, as Paul-E said, SJ's are selling these for £165 now, incredible, as there £300 from Lotus !

Must congratulate SJ Sportscars, ordered an oil cooler yesterday morning, arrived at GST Performance this morning, for just over £200 including next day delivery, Paul Matty wanted over £300 for one without delivery !
