LEC Forum Makeover

Postby Doug » Sat 09.07.2005, 03:23

Welcome all--back to the LEC Forum!

We had an unfortunate event with the old host of the website, which rendered the old Forum dead. Through the generous help of Tony Stevens, we have moved the site to a new webhost and decided to 'upgrade' the Forum to its present state!

The Forum is a new/different program, but works much the same as the old one. Each user should re-check and update their profile, as some information was lost/removed in the conversion. There will be some new features added in the near future to make this Forum more fun and informative than the old one.

I must give many thanks to Tony, and his compatriot, Liz, for making this Forum happen as you see it. This upgrade has surpassed my novice/terrible computer skills and is a testament to the hard work of Tony and Liz !!!

We will get the smilies back up; you will have to re-upload your avtar; and bear with us as we get the bearings greased up . . .

Glad to be back, and see you all around the Forum !!

Thanks Doug, Liz has put in a huge amount of work, and as you can see her artistic skills have really paid off, as I said in the initial emails, it's hard to pull off a 'Yellow & Green' website, but she's managed it!

Most of my work was the more background stuff to do with getting the files off the old webhost, which was a mission in itself as the webhost/FTP would only show 998 files per folder, and some, like the forum messages, had 10,000+ files in them. Then the task of converting the YaBB's somewhat inefficient method of storing everything in individual text files, into a very efficient SQL database.

Liz orriginally offered to make a template for the pages/forum, but she's ended up doing much much more, (and she's so better at it than me)

Not all of the pages have been completed yet, but the most important stuff has been done, over the next couple of weeks these will be finished off, and anything new people have to add can be put into shiny new pages too.

I hope you all feel the wait was worth it.

Coooooooool!

Like the new style.

I was rather hoping the new site would keep the riff-raff out, but I managed to get in anyway! :D
