Sy,

The manuals you put onto CD for me (along with the Castle Combe Photos) arrived shortly after the old site went down and I don't think I said thanks  . So thanks very much for that, you will probably have noticed that my new avatar is one of your Castle Combe pics and the manuals have been invaluable :D . Thanks again.

I go out for a few hours and they steal my thunder!

The more observant amongst you will notice that there are now 8 links under the banner at the top of the page.

Thanks to the joint efforts of Liz and Tony, we now have the Manuals (yes all of them that were on the CD) online available for download by members. These are hosted on-site so no more relying on other people and their servers for upkeep.

They're stored as separate .zip files and the resultant files are .pdfs. So you'll need something like WinZip and Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, if you want to use them. Download trials have indicated that the .pdfs open best with Acrobat Reader version 6.0 or above.

Just click the link...fill in the fields...that then generates an e-mail to the administrators who will verify your details...enter your details in a targetting database for our tactical nuclear missile (in case of misuse)...and send you a username and password to continue to the download section.

Have fun...

Sy

This post will be duplicated in the M100 Elan Reviews thread, for obvious reasons.

Sy

Are you still making these CDs? Can I send two CD-Rs?

Are you thinking about putting the articles online with the manuals?

Thanks

I have gone to the manuals link but there are no articles. Am I missing something?

The 'articles' currently take up a significantly large amount of space, close to 600mb I believe from emails Sy has sent me.

Although LEC has quite a large amount of hard disk space and bandwidth allowance, we will need to monitor current space useage to ensure that offering the articles for download do not adversely affect the main content of the site.

Just a little bit of info:
Current Hard Disk Usage: 247mb
Bandwidth Usage in July: 7.702gb

August Bandwidth Usage to date: 4.02gb
Estimage Total bandwidth for August: 12.642gb

The majority of the bandwidth is being used to serve pages and images for LEC. LEC doesnt support 'remote linking' so these figures are for our own usage only, and no bandwidth theft is present.

As you can tell if we were to add 600mb of articles, our monthly bandwidth usage could spike up a lot higher.

Plus theres the added work of Sy preparing the documents in Zip files, then building the pages to index the downloads.

For what it is worth ( and I keep offering) I have a T1 network that I use for my business, why not host the manuals and articles on another site that does not have the restrictions on bandwith to worry about each month?

Here is a quick look at my site and my work: http://www.docfizzix.com/science-lab/

Tony, if needed, putting them on another site (like Al's) would be fine with me.
