Yes I got the order. I was on a negotiation skills course last week but I'm back now. All outstanding orders will be posted tomorrow.

Does that mean the prices of the chips and brake kits are going up? :(

Alan,
I didn't really think they would go up, 'cos you're such a nice guy. However the downside of that is unfortunately I think it might mean that you failed the negotiations skills course.

Hi Alan.
Recieved chip today installed as per excellent instructions started up ok let her warm up and took her for a spin. As per my earlier MBC installation failure i am showing more boost but am not gaining more performance. There is obviously a problem somewhere do you think if i invested in elanscan it would help me trace it ?

kaymar,
I was going to refer you to two threads started by ElanScanMan under the Elanscan part of the technical forum (help with Mountain chip installation and Mountain chip performance discussion), but they bost seem to have disappearred in the website move. Anybody seen them?

Anyway, the point is that you're not the first person to experience this. The no 1 reason for it (in my opinion) is incorrectly set base timing. The other reason may be a constricted exhaust (only really a likelyhood if you're got an S2 with a catalyst which is bunged up); if they're both OK then we go into ElanScan for help.

Enright had a long troubleshooting job after Donington, but (as is invariably the case) the problems (I think I'm right in saying) were with the car setup and nothing to do with the chip installation.

There are unforunately a lot of problems that can sap power without much else in the way of symptoms Avonvilla recently installed a chip and sent me a log or two and I had to tell him his power was down on expectations. He started a thread about it in problems here. You'll have to start trying to trace the root cause I'm afraid. As John said the most likely is timing and I'd start there.

I think the chip threads are still around, they're just not pinned at the top any more.

Alan,
you're right of course. Forget my "they both seem to have disappearred" above. They're in this "Upgrades" part of the forum, not in "ElanScan" as I thought. One of them is
http://www.lotuselancentral.com/forum/v ... php?t=4523
and the other one is ... er... well ... er ... it's actually this one.

Thanks for suggestions guys, i've recently had base timing checked and car tested on dyno and she was putting out about 135 bhp and the guy said when he removed the air filter she made another 10 bhp. Also said the exhaust was not causing any restriction. This was before fitting everest. Read some threads which didn't really help. My question to Alan is do you think elanscan will help me find the problem ?

kaymar,
can you post the dyno readout so that we can compare it to what a "healthy" Elan can do? It might give some clues.

Was the base timing 16 deg BTDC? Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'd check it myself just to make sure. Have you had the cam belt changed? If they put it back one tooth out it would cause a lack of power.

ElanScan is a great diagnostic tool. It's also free, which I like very much. You have to have access to a laptop PC (not Mac) and buy an interface for about £50 (or make one). I think it's great for helping you work out what's going on or going wrong.

However be aware that it won't give you the answer on a plate, you do have to work it out, but without ElanScan you'd have no information to allow you to work it out, and probably just end up changing parts in the hope of fixing things.

My opinion: get ElanScan - no Elan owner should be without it.

Maybe

Seriously, it depends on the problem if its a sensor then yes it probably will. If its the head gasket or a leaking hose it probably won't. It can't hurt to try it though.

John.
I didn't get a dyno readout but surely 135 hp is healthy at the wheels and car performs fine in standard trim. It's just when i try to get more horses it doesn't seem to want to play. I'll order interface and hopefully that will assist in diagnostics. Thanks for suggestions.

Kaymar,
yes 135 bhp at the wheels sounds pretty good, if you've got a standard 2" exhaust. I had assumed the 135 was engine bhp (which should be 165).

For comparison, my SE gave 132 bhp at the wheels in standard form with a standard 2" exhaust, and 165 at the wheels with an Everest. Adding a 2-1/4" exhaust produced a few more BHP. Now when the Everest is in the dyno shows 206 bhp at the flywheel.

Hopefully Elanscan can help.

Hello. I have an SE that's standard, (apart from 17's) just wondering if it's worth chipping with a standard bore exhaust. What boost and power can I gain? Thanks

Dovey,
the answer's in my post above:
...my SE gave 132 bhp at the wheels in standard form with a standard 2" exhaust, and 165 at the wheels with an Everest.

ESM's chips work wonders and are well worth fitting to a standard car. Just ensure your brakes and suspension are in good condition and up to taking extra power.

If an Everest is too much, try a Kilimanjaro.

Alan.
Which chip did you put into The Bling Mobile. It seems different to the normal Everest. :?:

The bling mobile, have you got Gerome's car :?:

I don't think anything custom has gone out since I sent something to a guy who just wanted the cut lifted. What are the symptoms of this non-standard behaviour?
