The nearer to the perfect 60mm you can get, the better.  That said, anything within the 20% window (I'm reliably informed) shouldn't have too much detrimental effect on handling.<br>So +48 to +72mm should be OK...ish.

After 2 years in the search of the best replacement for S2 wheels but in 17" diameter, the closest I got was 52mm Offset.

What wheels !?

Postby ivar » Thu 28.07.2005, 21:24

Everybody please give me your opinion.
I am buying new wheels for my red S1, and can't decide what wheels to get. Below are some pictures i have collected from around (i hope nobody gets angry for posting their pics?). I think the wheel type (5 spoke) on the yellow one (hood down) looks best on the elan. What do other members think :?:
I am going for 7"x16" offset 45, 205x45 (or 205x50 if they fit?)
(Liz ! Why don't the picture show :( )

Hmmm, I almost liked the BMW/Wire wheel look, and the ones like Costsas on the right of your image look mean but beckon instant curbing death.

That said, I got my Route Oz 16s originals on the car. The previous owner may have scuffed the edges (and curse the lack of money that stops me getting they repaired) but they have "Lotus" embossed on them, so I'm keeping them :) Stick to the 205 45, 50 will be too much profile surely.

Ivar,

I liked the wheels similar in style to Costas' rims, the set on the right of your picture. However the "knuckles" for want of a better word protrude beyond the tyre...meaning that the rubber of the tyre will not make contact with the curb first, the rim will scuff against the curb before the tyre connects. This would mean it is easier to damage these rims.

I made that more complex didn't I

My English used to be okay, then I moved to America.

See all y'all later, you hear!
