This could be a silly queston but my S2's MOT is fast aproaching and I just wondered whether I needed to take the car to a specialist or a normal MOT station?

Just didn't want the car to be jacked up incorrectly and damaged.

Nick,

Specialist might be better, although you might be able to brief a 'normal' MOT centre - and even watch !!. Check their reaction when you discuss it on the phone. I've had mixed results but lately my friend does my MOTs.

U can use any MOT station, just book her in and stay with the car so u can show them the jacking points. Done my not long ago, they have a pit and he just use the stock jack to rise the wheels to check bearings etc.

I use a normal MOT station. they dont service cars, only do MOT's. Just mentioned the jacking points and let them get on with it.

Thanks, the one thing the MOT station mentioned was they may not be able to jack the car up if the jacking points are at the side???

Does this sound correct?

Is there any way of jacking the car up rather than the two side jacking points?

My car is an S2 would this make a difference??

Normally the MOT station will want to jack the car under the chassis, rather than the jack points. The REARMOST wishbone points at the rear can be used - but a block of wood under the main chassis at the rear seems to work just as well. For the front, the bolts under the engine under frame can be used. Your issue with the S2 is that you only have one jacking point at the front - depends on the lift - they might be able to use them for the front.

Thanks Jim, I think there main worry was their jack on the car lift didn't go out far enough at the sides. the rear sounds nice and simple but I was a bit confused as to where the bolts you mean are for lifting the front?????
