Damd, Code 41 & 42 + max 3000rpm.

5 days to the Gran Europe tour and then this.
It started with a code 41. Engine stalled and lights came on at 3000rpm. Restart did not help. 3000rpm are now max. Above that engine stall and lights come on.
Well, checked all connections and wires for damage, no luck, so I changed the Hall sensor, still the same. Only this time it also showed code 42, so I checked connections on distributor, and have also had all connections of the ECM. Still no luck, so I think it's time to ask you all, what the next step should be, as I'm ran out of ideas.

Oh, and my new costum made 2½" exhaust did not fit, so I'm having a real off-day.

Have tryed an other ECM, on luck.
All is still normal upto 3000rpm, then cutoff and CEL on, still code 41 & 42.
Why, why, why.... ....All help appreciated.

Can a faulty ignition module tricker code 42 and also course code 41 on the Hall sensor circuit.

Does sound like a CAS problem also try new plugs and leads and maybe swap the coils from the other M100

I've seen these codes set when an HT lead had come off the coil. I'd strongly suspect the high tension circuit.

Have changed HT leads, new coil and still the same.

What if the ECM don't shift from bypass mode over 800rpm. Will the engine continue to run without advancing timing untill engine runs out of steem (at ex. 3000rpm) whereafter various fault are detected.
If so, how can that be tested, and will it show on ElanScan.

Is it the Hall sensor that gives rpm info to the ECM or is it the magnetic pick-up.

Have been looking allover the enginebay and have followed the main harness on till the ECM, and still no sign of damaged wires.

Its the magnetic sensor output that goes to the coil pack (should be white and white&red wires). The Hall effect sensor output goes to the ECU.

I'm into a dead end here.
It seems that the ECM is not shifting the coil from bypass mode to normal running( 5v signal) but how do you check that, and against is that shifting to another ECM don't change the situation.

But what else.

Situation so fare.:
- new coil
- new HT leads
- new sparkplugs
- "new" ECM
- new Hall sensor(new type)
- wires checked 500 times, still nothing found.

Delta,
are you saying that the car is behaving as though it is in the "paperclip test" mode?

If so, have you checked the ALDL plug pins and wiring for a short circuit? I'm sure you won't have a paperclip shorting the pins, but is there some other way those wires under the dashboard are touching?

4 days to go, and still the same.
Checked the ALDL wires, non.

It's a strange problem. Everything seems normal upto 3000rpm, then the engine flutter and will not pass 3000rpm. and the CEL sets code 41 &42.

What can trigger at 3000rpm.

As said I have changed whatever in these circuits, checked all wires, checked that ECM produce the 5v to the coil to set it into EST mode.

What else can have an influence on these circuits.

Still need help and suggestions. ............. Please.................

A shot in the dark - when you changed the coil you put back all the plastic washers front and back so the coil is not earthed to the chassis only earthed through the earth wire which would have been on the top left-hand bolt looking down on to the coil.

PROBLEM FOUND AND SOLVED.

Fault on the magnetic pick-up, had obvious a bad funktion, which only showed at 3000rpm or above. Had a good one on my scrap engine, put it in and all problems gone.

4 days to go, and back on track.
