Haywood & Scott Exhaust

My S2 is going in for a new exhaust in 2 weeks.Had some quotes from Haywood & Scott for a similar system Jon_B had done last year £800 + vat (£940).
A complete 2.5" system including pre-cat replacement,sports cat in pre-cat position and a choice of tailpipe is now £1000 + vat (£1175).
I'm having 2.25"/2.5"(not sure) from pre-cat back for £500+vat with a large oval tailpipe and maybe having sports cat(£300)/pre-cat replacement(£350) done at a later date.

Had my car back a few days now and what a difference!!!
I don't know if it was because my main cat was rattling or that it's now a 2.5" pipe, but it flies now. I had a 2.5" exhaust from the pre-cat back, losing the main cat, large oval tailpipe and with a flexible pipe for movement, cost £587.
The work H & S did was excellent and exactly what I asked for. I still might have the pre-cat replaced with a sports cat/pre-cat pipe but not until my smile has faded.

Is the place you used located in Basildon???

Just wondered as I've got an S2 as well and my cat is shot so I'm going to have to sort out the exaust at some time.

Yes NickB it was in Basildon but the nearest station is Pitsea, which they will drop you off at and pick you up from.
Where in Essex are you, because you can look at mine if you wish before booking. I am in Romford, or would always meet you at Sinclaires if you wish.

I live in Orsett, not far from Grays.

My cat just made it through the mot a week ago so hopefully I will be ok for a while(fingers crossed).

Just out of interest how will you get through the mot?

Nickb, as far as I am aware, it should pass an MOT with just the pre-cat. According to Sinclaires they have fitted the Janspeed to S2's which are meant for SE's, so no cats, and they pass O.K.
I will find out late in September anyway.

Sinclairs told me the same thing when my car was there last time but I got the impression the place they use would pass it at an MOT and not just anywhere?

was there a reason why you didn't go the Janspeed route????

I don't think thats the case they told me they pass without any problems. I looked into it alot and it seems quite a few people have gone down this route, including M100 TWO, who I think doesn't have any cats at all.
I saw the Janspeed fitted on 2 Elans, it looked nice but has a round tailpipe that seems to stick out a long way to me and I wanted oval (but you could have anything made). Also I think it's only a standard 2" pipe with no flexible pipe fitted, so if you wanted to upgrade to a everest chip, 2.5" would be better.

thanks gaz I think it depends very much on which MOT station you go to, my car only just got through this time so I don't think I would stand a chance of passing with no cat, looks like I'll be going to H & S in the next couple of months, the janspeed sounded ok as I had one on my Elise but I didn't want to be Tied to Sinclairs for my MOT's.

I got an answer today from my work mate, whose brother runs a MOT station. Apparently if the car was built after 1993/4? it must have a cat fitted to pass. As I kept the pre-cat, he said he would pass it, as long as it was below the emission levels. Was told it helps to make sure car is warm before MOT.

I have only the pre-cat in place (the main cat died twice in as many months) and as long as the cat is warm when they do the test it passes. If you go in cold it does fail.

Mine failed at first on the emissions and it had been running for about 15mins but then passed about 5 mins later, maybe my cat is completly nackered and it would pass whether the cat was in? I guess it depends very much on the mot station and how strict they are.

Just had MOT and it passed with just the pre-cat in place, all CO readings were right in the middle of the min/max levels.
It did need 2 wiper blades though!!!!!!!!!!!
