ab gear cables adjustment

Postby stevo » Sun 28.08.2005, 21:14

Emenent issue with Blipi's gear cables! HELP!

After kindly breaking Blipi's cables at Callander I have swopped Missy's AB's into Blipi

All fitted and went well for a few minutes and then the gears were sticking in the top gears and couldn't get neutral either.

I can put it into neutral manually from the linkage on the gear box but when the shift leaver is put forward into first third or fith it is sticking in and won't return to neutral. Is this just a matter of adjustment or have I fcukked it good and proper!

It took me a while to adjust the cables to how I wanted the gears to fall and it was a bit tricky for me as I was doing it on a driveway having only driven the elan for 60 miles previously (just bought the car).

I remember doing up the nuts nice and tight with the supplied spanners, and over 6000 miles later in all conditions I am still having no problems.

Could it have come loose on the gearstick side?

Well well well. Paisley is just the place I wanted to hang about on my holiday!

All set and done now at last.

Problem? The gear cable we broken! Bit of welding and it'll do for my weeks needs. Hours of farting about, mainly in the rain but the final fit after the welding took a very impressive 20 minutes to fit! :D Think Stevo has the art mastered now.

Oooo, as I'm sure many people will be wanting to ask, YES! I did get to see Stevo's stiffy! Even got to hold it...

I think Blipi has had enough flirting with Missy and stealing parts (no joy in a wheel swop :( ) Time for me to hit the road! :burnout:
